Payroll Tax Specialist will monitor, manage and reconcile payroll taxes at the employer and employee level. Duties include reconciliation to the general ledger as well as to UKG Tax Service reports, preparation, and maintenance of other compliance activities.

Essential Functions:

  • Reconcile payroll tax reporting after each pay run to ensure accurate filings by tax service provider. Reconcile payroll taxes to the general ledger and review journal entries.
  • Analyzes, audits, reconciles and resolves complex payroll, tax, and employee issues. Ensures payroll reporting and payments are compliant with company policy, generally accepted accounting principles, and federal, state and IRS regulations.
  • Manage filing of tax updates as needed.
  • Monitor quarterly tax filings including reconciliation of payroll reports to 941s and W-2s.
  • Prepare and manage multiple worksite reporting requirements and any other state requested labor reports.
  • Process bi-weekly general ledger entry and deliver to the finance team.
  • Assist with general payroll processing during peak volume including, new hire review, garnishments, work location changes, terminations and other payroll changes.
  • Assist payroll team with payroll processing audit during payroll week.
  • Responsible for accurate tax set up and system maintenance of SUI rates, registration of new accounts when required and verification of SUI rates by work location.

  • Review, analyze, and respond to all unemployment claims in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years’ experience with payroll tax filings and compliance issues in a multi-state environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field a plus.
  • CPP certification preferred
  • Strong accounting skills, analytical, problem-solving, detail oriented, and proficient in excel
  • Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax withholding, federal, state, local payroll tax laws, and compliance regulations.
  • UKG experience a plus.
  • Experience in unemployment claims processing.
  • Experience processing adjustments, reconciling and preparing W-2 forms, general ledger requests, and employee tax inquiries.
  • Strong communication skills for resolving tax discrepancies with tax authorities and employees.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with all levels of staff. Must be able to communicate effectively and in a constructive manner with management, peers and coworkers

Position Grade & Compensation: Grade 507 The Alzheimer's Association’s good faith expectation for the salary range for this role is between $71,000-$77,000
