Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Reports to: President Direct Reports: Finance Team, IT Manager
Position Overview
Atkins & Pearce is seeking a strategic, cost-oriented Chief Financial Officer to lead our Finance and IT functions as we continue to scale and modernize operations. The CFO will be a critical partner to the President and leadership team, helping drive financial performance, technology integration, and transparency across the organization. This role is uniquely positioned within a privately held, family-owned business and includes responsibility for ownership communications, distributions, and financial stewardship that supports both business and legacy priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Leadership
· Serve as a strategic advisor to the President and leadership team, enabling data-driven decisions through budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting.
· Deliver timely and proactive reporting on financial results, trends, and areas of opportunity.
· Ensure alignment between financial strategy and operational priorities.
Cost Accounting & Operational Finance
· Oversee and continuously improve cost accounting systems to ensure accurate product and operational costing.
· Conduct deep-dive financial analysis regarding customer, product, and product line profitability and model the profitability implications of strategy alternatives.
· Support margin improvement through collaboration with Operations, Supply Chain, and Scheduling teams.
· Guide department leaders in budget development, variance analysis, and cost management.
Accounting, Controls & Compliance
· Manage accounting operations, including monthly close, financial statements, and compliance with GAAP.
· Maintain and strengthen internal controls, audit readiness, and risk mitigation.
· Coordinate with tax advisors, auditors, and other external partners.
Ownership-Facing Responsibilities
· Serve as a trusted liaison to ownership, maintaining direct communication on financial matters such as:
o Business performance and investment readiness
o Distributions and capital planning
o Charitable contributions and family giving strategy
· Ensure financial decisions balance operational growth and long-term family priorities.
· Uphold confidentiality and stewardship in all matters related to family financial interests.
ERP Integration & IT Oversight
· Serve as a key stakeholder in the ERP implementation, ensuring financial requirements and reporting capabilities are integrated effectively.
· Oversee the IT function, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendor management, and systems development, through direct leadership of the IT Manager.
· Align IT strategy with business goals, supporting automation, data visibility, and scalability.
· Champion system improvements and digital tools that enhance cross-functional collaboration, reduce manual work, and improve decision-making.
· Ensure the organization has secure, reliable, and cost-effective technology resources to support daily operations and long-term growth.
Team Leadership
· Lead and develop high-performing Finance and IT teams.
· Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred)
· 10+ years of progressive financial leadership, ideally in manufacturing
· Strong cost accounting and operational finance experience
· Background in ERP support or implementation (Infor CloudSuite experience a plus)
· Prior experience supporting a family-owned or privately held business is highly desirable
· High level of discretion, integrity, and trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information
