Job Title: Engineering Manager
Reports To: Director of QME (Quality, Maintenance & Engineering)
Role Purpose
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the Engineering function to support reliable operations, quality outcomes, and business growth. This role blends technical leadership, hands-on engineering work, and cross-functional project support, ensuring engineering capability is applied where it creates the most value. The Engineering Manager is expected to both manage the team and contribute technically, with a strong focus on documentation, fabrication, problem-solving, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering team
- Set priorities, assign work, and ensure projects are executed on time and to standard
- Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance feedback
- Build technical depth and cross-training within the team
- Support hiring, onboarding, and skills development as needed
2. Engineering Documentation & Drawings
- Develop and maintain engineering drawings for critical parts, tooling, fixtures, and equipment
- Ensure drawings are accurate, controlled, and accessible for Maintenance and Operations
- Support the creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and part specifications
- Partner with Quality to ensure documentation supports repeatability and compliance
- Reduce reliance on tribal knowledge by capturing institutional engineering knowledge
3. Fabrication, Machining & Prototyping
- Lead and support in-house fabrication and machining activities
- Design and build fixtures, tooling, guards, and custom components
- Support rapid prototyping for process improvements and new product development
- Ensure safe practices, proper materials, and fit-for-purpose designs
- Determine when work should be done internally versus outsourced
4. Business Development & Growth Support
- Support Business Development and Sales through prototyping and production build-out
- Assist with new product introduction (NPI), process design, and scalability planning
- Collaborate with Quality and Operations to ensure new products meet performance and reliability expectations
- Provide technical input on feasibility, cost, and timeline for new opportunities
5. Special Projects Supporting Maintenance & Facilities
- Lead or support special projects that improve equipment reliability, maintenance effectiveness, or facility capability
- Assist Maintenance with complex troubleshooting, rebuilds, and upgrades
- Support Facilities projects including layout changes, infrastructure upgrades, and safety improvements
- Provide engineering oversight for contractors and third-party vendors when required
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Quality, Maintenance, Operations, and Scheduling
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action efforts
- Ensure engineering solutions address root causes—not symptoms
- Align engineering work with organizational priorities and Proactive Leadership expectations
7. Miscellaneous
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required / Core Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related discipline) or equivalent hands-on experience
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Engineering design and documentation (drawings, specifications, BOMs)
- Fabrication, machining, tooling, or fixture design
- Supporting maintenance, facilities, or production equipment
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred / Beneficial Qualifications
- Experience in continuous or 24/7 manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with ISO-based Quality Management Systems
- Experience supporting new product development or process scale-up
- Experience managing or mentoring engineers, technicians, or skilled trades
- CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Familiarity with CMMS, ERP, or engineering change management systems

Working Conditions
- This role is primarily based in a manufacturing and fabrication environment
- Regular presence on the production floor is required to support operations, maintenance, and project execution
- Work involves:
- Exposure to moving machinery, noise, heat, dust, and industrial materials
- Use of hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment
- Occasional lifting of materials and components (up to ~50 lbs, with assistance as needed)
- PPE is required in designated areas (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.)
- Standard work schedule is full-time; additional hours may be required during:
- Equipment rebuilds or outages
- Critical projects or business development support
- Occasional interaction with contractors, vendors, and customers may be required
