POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior R&D Engineer - Catheter role is focused on the design and development of catheters and surgical ablation devices. This position will be responsible for ideating and bringing new concepts to fruition through 3D CAD modeling and drawing development. Other responsibilities can include mechanical design analysis and testing, material research, prototype development, tolerance stack analysis, test gage and fixture design, and providing DFM and manufacturing support. We are looking for a creative and driven individual to own and collaborate on design initiatives. Working on a cross-functional team, you will have a direct impact on the development of new innovative technology and advancing patient care.

POSITION TO BE BASED IN MASON,OH. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AVAIALBLE 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

  • Support and lead the technical development efforts of catheter and surgical ablation projects, including mechanical design, testing, analysis, verification, and validation.
  • Creation and maintenance of 3D CAD models, assemblies, and drawings
  • Work closely with the development team and suppliers to ensure scope, expectations, and product requirements and design requirements are fully understood
  • Performing engineering analyses such as:
    • Mechanism design and analysis
    • Part fit and tolerance analysis
    • Materials selection
    • Design for manufacturability validation
  • Collaborate with suppliers in the design and procurement of development components
  • Prepare for and conduct various design reviews in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Verify that designs meet functional requirements through the performance of engineering analyses and testing.
  • Support manufacturing validation as needed
  • Facilitating the creation of design standard practices within the company
  • Compliance to the AtriCure Quality System and company policies
  • Cross-functional collaboration as part of a research and development team that brings novel ideas through concept development and into full product launch

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or directly related scientific discipline 5+ years product development experience required; preference for experience with class II or III medical devices Knowledge of catheter design and manufacturing processes (i.e. extrusion, braiding, coiling, reflow, etc.)
  • Demonstrated creativity and proficiency in design of complex mechanisms and assemblies
  • Proficiency in GD&T and performing tolerance analyses
  • Proficiency in material selection and associated manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of design controls, requirements development, design characterization and design for manufacturing (DFM)
  • Strong data entry, technical report writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting experience
  • Proven collaborative teamwork skills in a cross-functional engineering environment
  • Ability to travel 10%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced experience working in SolidWorks
  • Previous experience with interventional medical products: catheter-based technologies (cardiovascular, neurovascular, peripheral vascular, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge in materials selection
  • Advanced knowledge in GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Experience in design of complex medical device assemblies
  • Experience in utilizing Multiphysics analysis tools to perform finite element analysis and other simulations
  • Expertise in general prototyping manufacturing technologies
  • Experience with inspection/testing and data analysis
  • Human Factors and Industrial Design experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to regularly walk, sit, or stand as needed
  • Ability to occasionally bend and push/pull as needed
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
