POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for supporting development, maintenance, and execution of the publication plan in alignment with the publication strategic goals. The Principal Publications Specialist will interact with internal collaborators, including cross-functional team members from AtriCure R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, and Marketing, as well as external collaborators, including statisticians, healthcare professionals, and research staff. The Principal Publications Specialist will possess medical writing experience, understanding of scientific research methodologies, analytical skills and technical knowledge of products and processes to create scientifically accurate congress abstracts, peer-reviewed articles, and clinical science white papers/internal literature summaries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Author/review abstracts and manuscripts for submission to scientific meetings/congresses and peer reviewed scientific journals
- Author podium presentation and posters for meetings/congresses worldwide
- Support development, maintenance, and execution of the publication plan with the AtriCure publication team
- Independently manage publication projects from start to finish, including publication committees
- Work independently with internal and external collaborators, including cross-functional AtriCure teams, physicians, research staff, statisticians, and other stakeholders to achieve publication goals
- Proactively gain and maintain subject matter expertise with AtriCure devices, relevant clinical trials, new medical developments, treatment guidelines, and publications on state-the-art devices/therapies
- Coordinate data analysis needed for publications with internal or external statistician as needed
- Ensure that accurate, high-quality documents are prepared on schedule and in accordance with relevant regulations/standards/guidelines
- Provide input on and review accuracy of clinical science content as needed by cross-functional teams
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Regular and predictable worksite and meeting attendance during AtriCure business hours
- Ability to use virtual meeting platforms (i.e. WebEx, Teams) with internal and external collaborators
- Ability to work under fast-paced conditions
- Ability to make decisions and use good judgment
- Ability to prioritize various duties and multitask to meet target deadlines
- Ability to successfully work with others including professional and timely communication
- Additional duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Science with 8 years of relevant experience or Bachelor of Science with 10 years of relevant experience
- At least 3 years of experience in scientific/medical writing, preferably with cardiac medical devices in an industry environment
- Experience with analyzing and summarizing scientific data
- Previous authorship on peer-reviewed publications
- Collaborative approach in working with cross functional teams
- Ability to travel approximately 10%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD and/or MD
- Experience in the domain of Cardiac Surgery / Electrophysiology
- Computer Skills (EndNote, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams)
- Ability to write independently with minimal input
- Demonstrated project management experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to regularly walk, sit, or stand as required
- Ability to occasionally bend and push/pull
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
