About Our Client

Our client is building a SaaS and IoT business that enables customers to leverage data from connected devices to improve device performance, health, and connectivity.

Our client's platform connects existing battery-powered devices to a cloud-based software platform, capturing and analyzing device telemetry while providing customers with centralized visibility into device performance and data. The technology is designed for distributed, battery-powered devices used in commercial and institutional environments, giving customers greater visibility into device condition and performance in the field.

The organization is developing toward a Data-as-a-Service model, where data generated by connected devices can support additional products and services. The long-term opportunity is to build a large installed base of connected devices and develop additional recurring-revenue products from the data they generate.

The product is moving from proof of concept into commercialization, creating a rare opportunity to shape the product strategy, roadmap, and operating model as our client moves into its next phase. Backed by a major global organization, our client offers the resources and reach to support growth while giving its leaders significant ownership over product direction, priorities, and execution.

The Opportunity

The Senior Director of Product will have end-to-end responsibility for the product, including product vision and strategy, roadmap, pricing parameters, customer needs, product economics, and readiness for market.

This leader will determine where the product should go, which opportunities to pursue, and how to balance customer needs, commercial opportunities, technical feasibility, and long-term platform investments. The role will work closely with R&D, Commercial, Operations, and executive leadership and will serve as a primary product voice with senior leadership.

This is a player-coach role. The Senior Director will lead and develop the product organization while remaining directly involved in customer discovery, product strategy, requirements, prioritization, and other core product work.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Roadmap

  • Define the product vision and platform strategy based on customer needs, market opportunity, technical feasibility, and business objectives.
  • Own and communicate the product roadmap to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Evaluate customer needs, market opportunities, competitive dynamics, and technical feasibility to determine where the product should invest.
  • Determine which capabilities and opportunities should be pursued and how they should be prioritized.
  • Balance near-term customer needs with longer-term product and platform investments.

Product, Pricing & Economics

  • Define the product's capabilities, requirements, and boundaries so commercial commitments remain aligned with what the product can deliver.
  • Establish and pressure-test pricing parameters using customer input, market research, competitive analysis, and product economics.
  • Partner with R&D and Finance on product costs and unit economics and incorporate those considerations into pricing and margin decisions.
  • Partner with Commercial and Marketing to ensure product positioning, documentation, and customer-facing materials accurately represent the product.

Customer Discovery & Product Lifecycle

  • Lead product discovery and market validation through customer research, advisory groups, design partnerships, pilots, and other direct customer engagement.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer personas, workflows, and how the product is used in the field.
  • Oversee the product lifecycle from discovery and requirements through development, release, and adoption.
  • Own product readiness and ensure capabilities are validated before deployment or commercial commitment.
  • Establish the prioritization framework for customer needs, commercial opportunities, technical requirements, security, and other product investments.

Technology & Data

  • Work closely with R&D and data and analytics teams to turn data generated by connected devices into new features, services, and future Data-as-a-Service offerings.
  • Provide the product perspective on hardware, firmware, software, and data decisions.
  • Partner with R&D on product security and other technical requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage product-generated data to create additional customer value and recurring-revenue opportunities.

Team & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead and develop the product organization, including product managers, product owners, solutions engineers, and UX/CX resources, establishing clear goals, measurable objectives, accountability and ownership outcomes.
  • Build strong cross functional partnerships across Product, R&D, IT, Commercial, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Operations, aligning priorities and establishing clear decision-making across functions.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Provide product strategy, requirements, and technical input for strategic partnership opportunities.
  • Work with business development and other leaders to ensure potential partnerships align with the product strategy and technical direction.

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking a senior product leader with a track record of building and scaling technically complex products and the ability to connect product strategy, customer needs, technology and business economics. The role requires an autonomous, technically credible player-coach who takes ownership and stays close to the work; from executive strategy and customer conversations to technical discussions with R&D and hands-on leadership of the product team. Our client values sound judgement, direct communication, and disciplined execution.

Required

  • Proven SaaS product leadership, including ownership of product vision, strategy, roadmap, pricing, and product economics.
  • Experience leading products that combine hardware, firmware, and software, with the technical fluency to work credibly with R&D and engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading product organizations, with a hands-on approach to leadership and product development.
  • Strong experience in customer discovery, market validation, product lifecycle management, and roadmap prioritization.
  • Executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions across Product, R&D, Commercial, and other functions.

Strongly Preferred

  • IoT and/or Data-as-a-Service experience, particularly with connected-device platforms and data-driven products.
  • Experience with industrial or capital-equipment IoT, predictive maintenance, device health, or similarly complex technical products.
  • OEM, strategic partnership, or ecosystem development experience.
  • Experience taking a product from zero-to-one, proof of concept, or early revenue through its next stage of commercialization.
