Job Description

As key member of the Information Technology Leadership (IT) team, the Executive Director of Clinical and Revenue Cycle Systems Applications reports to the VP & Chief Information and Digital Transformation Officer and provides strategic direction and innovation that delivers optimal value for TCHHN’s core clinical systems. The Executive Director of Clinical and Revenue Cycle Systems is responsible for the development, implementation, and support of information technology a comprehensive range of systems centered around the Epic EHR, including but not limited to inpatient, outpatient, ancillary clinical, revenue cycle, population health.

The Executive Director is a key member of the IT Leadership team and must possess a strong knowledge of IT, applications, and project management. Understanding the organization's needs is a major part of this role and requires a thorough understanding of healthcare operations, both ambulatory and inpatient.

The Executive Director will oversee the integrated governance, strategic direction, operating plans, financial management, talent management, application lifecycle and portfolio management, regulatory compliance and oversight, and customer service and relationship management with key clinical, and operational leaders for the aligned applications.

Responsibilities

Strategic Oversight: Develop and implement short and long-term goals related to IT applications and services, ensuring alignment with TCHHN’s strategic direction.

Application Management: Oversee all application services and systems, exceeding service level agreements. Establish and communicate application standards and architecture.

Governance: Work with clinic and physician leadership and governance committees to facilitate strategic use of clinical applications and supporting technologies in alignment with organizational priorities and initiatives.

Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a diverse team, ensuring high-quality education and support for all EHR users.

Vendor and Budget Management: Supervise third-party vendors and manage a significant annual budget. Provide regular reports to management on project performance, metrics, and application systems.

Communication and Collaboration: Facilitate effective communication between staff, vendors, and other technology resources. Represent IT in committees and forums, reporting on critical issues to the CIDTO.

Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends and innovations, integrating them into our strategic plans. Contribute to clinical delivery and process improvement programs.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree required in Business Administration, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 12+ years’ of hands-on experience in technology operations, applications, and / or and infrastructure management
  • 7+ years’ in a healthcare IT management position.
  • 5+ years’ practical experience implementing and supporting Epic and ancillary clinical applications. Demonstrated experience in developing application technology strategy and multi-year roadmaps, ideally EHR strategy and roadmaps.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and management ranging from individual contributor to C-suite.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large teams of full-time employees, consultants, and contractors. Strong track record in implementing and maintaining large-scale Epic systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical operations (e.g., ambulatory, inpatient, pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology services) and revenue cycle operations. Experience in best practices and leading complex and advanced application solutions to optimize operations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of common EHR integrations / interoperability and reporting strategy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of an EHR ecosystem, core modules, and how they interact with one another.
  • Expertise in structured systems lifecycle development and project management. Proficiency in budgeting and planning for large departments and projects. Strong analytical, time management, and leadership skills with the ability to handle complex projects and issues effectively.
  • Strong preference given to those with Epic application certifications (e.g., EpicCare Ambulatory and Inpatient, Beaker, Resolute) and certifications in industry standards such as Project Management Professional (PMP), ITIL, or CHCIO

Required Skills and Knowledge:

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, client relations and relationship building, analytical, project management, expert level presentation and communication (written/verbal) skills.
