The Biomedical Engineering Imaging IV position is a very experienced expert specializing in the service and support of high-end imaging systems, e.g. MR/CT, Cath/Angio lab, or other very advanced imaging systems. The purpose is to cost effectively support these modalities, while at the same time providing superior service and support for TCHHN’s advanced imaging services. This involves reducing contracts by providing support in-house.
The Biomedical Engineering Imaging IV - Biomedical Imaging coordinates activities that improve the overall proficiency level to the various imaging services of TCHHN, this position is expected to provide direction and technical advice to the Imaging Specialist I and II.

EDUCATION:
Minimum:
• Associate Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology (or similarly named program) or military training and specific manufacturer training on imaging modalities plus 7 years’ experience in advanced imaging service. (Manufacturer training must be recent and specific to TCHHN equipment).
• Education or training in IT Integration (DICOM) and server. Must have knowledge on networks (TCP/IP), operation of systems, radiation physics, tools, and high voltage safety. Must be highly proficient with MS Office, e-mail, and Windows.
Prefer: Minimum requirements plus:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology plus 7 years’ experience.
• Associate Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology (or similarly named program) or military training and recent specific manufacturer training on imaging modalities plus 10 years’ experience in advanced imaging service.
(Manufacturer training must be specific to TCHHN equipment).
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 7 years of recent imaging experience with at least 5 years of advanced specialized imaging modalities.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Must have same knowledge of Imaging Specialist I and II.
• Knowledge to service and QA two or more specialized imaging modalities. MRI, CT, Cathlab, or PET/CT. Basic radiographic and fluoroscopy theory and x-ray physics along with advanced computer systems skills. MRI requires knowledge of nuclear magnetic resonance, advanced computer skills, and knowledge of cryogen systems. CT requires knowledge and experience with spiral scanning technology, multi-channel detector systems, x-ray tubes, and high voltage generators.
• Skill set must include proven ability to understand and diagnose complex systems made up of many sub-systems and modules.
• Understand and apply image quality theory to x-ray CT, MRI, Cathlab/Angio, and (radiographic and fluoroscopy) devices to ensure their proper operation and continued design performance.
• Knowledge of proper safety procedures in handling and using nuclear isotopes, x-rays, and contrasts when servicing the equipment.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex hardware and software systems for which responsibility is assumed.
• Strong training skills with the ability to apply clinical workflow knowledge to enhance adoption and usage of system to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes is required.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships internal and external to the TCHHN and across cultures.
• Computer system, networking and communication protocols knowledge and skills, including IT systems e.g. operating systems (OS), Ethernet, serial communication, database, HL-7, DICOM, and server/workstation hardware. Ability to learn new systems quickly. Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Office. Knowledge of digital imaging systems, storage, and quality assurance.
• Requires independent thought and ability to make accurate judgments on the fly. Works independently with little direction and must be self-starting, highly motivated, and willing/ability to continuously learn.
• Able to design, implement, and document devices used to test advanced imaging modalities, including setting up test devices, or software prior to use on procedures. Has the ability to understand design theory, including electrical, ultrasonic physics, mechanical, biomedical, and software.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with end-users and across cultures.
• Knowledge of JCAHO, OSHA, HIPAA, and SMDA policies and regulations; and experience in incident investigation and quality assurance inspections is preferred. Including radiation safety, legal requirements and proper testing processes and documentation.
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS &/or CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) or 7 or more recent OEM training schools on TCHHN equipment.
Advanced certifications (training classes) in MRI, CT, or Cathlab/Angio systems.

Service Duties
• Respond, Diagnosis, Repair, Manage Issues, Cost Control, Communication and maintain Safety (mechanical, radiation dose, image quality, electrical).
• Respond to service events within agreed upon time with clinical service.
• Performs efficient diagnosis to determine root cause.
• Manages repair by determining and obtaining resources needed to mitigate problem (e.g. parts, outside support, etc.).
• Communicates with the clinical users, other imaging engineers, OEMs, CE Business Operations, and CE Management.
• Uses training on imaging modalities to effect repairs in a timely manner.
• Is able to provide uptime of 98% for normal operating hours.
Scheduled Maintenance Duties
• Preventive Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Verification of Image Quality, Measure and Adjust Radiation Dose.
• Ensure proper operation of computer and information processes.
• Performs or ensures scheduled maintenance; which includes preventive maintenance, QA, functional inspections in accordance with the manufacturer guidelines and requirements, documentation in accordance with the TCH MEMP medical equipment management.
• Communicates and works with medical physicist.
• Performs routine computer and information systems processes to maintain image processing and communication with PACS, or other IT systems.
• Works with clinical departments to schedule equipment for service.
• Responsible for scheduling other imaging engineers to assist with work, training or instruction
• Expected to work independently with little instruction from CE management.
Equipment On-Boarding Duties
• Obtains all information required for Clinical Maintenance and Management System (CMMS).
• Verify proper operation of system (OEM) and ensure all training for clinical users has been completed or scheduled.
• Report on any deficiencies or recommendations on new installations.
• Works with medical physicists, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and Radiographic Generating Equipment (RGE) State Coordinator (CE Business Office, Supervisor).
• Oversees initial equipment inspection and setup with OEM
• Independently assures all specifications are met on new modalities prior to clinical use.
• Ensures imaging systems meet all state and government regulations, passes all manufacturer safety guidelines and conforms to HTM’s MEMP.
Project Management: Manage assigned imaging projects.
• Schedule meetings
• Work with vendors, clinical users, and other hospital departments.
• Document all work.
• Develop milestones and critical timelines.
Documentation Duties
• Acts as a coordinator and conduit of information between all parties involved with the advanced imaging modalities
• As coordinator, maintains communications with all parties to assure resolution and proper follow-up.
• Keeps management informed of system status and requirements.
• Documents all work in CE’s, CMMS.
Training/Teaching Duties
• Responsible for training and teaching other imaging engineers to properly service and support advanced imaging modalities.
• Responsible for teaching or training users on proper operation.
• Review problem events to ensure safe and efficient operations.
On-call Duties
• On-call responsibility for systems maintained by this position or other critical areas as deemed necessary by the director and administration.
