JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lab & Equipment Maintenance- Learn to keep equipment and electrodes clean and in proper working order. Troubleshoot equipment problems, make repairs or report to a supervisor promptly. Maintain necessary supplies and equipment. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families.

  • Job knowledge/skills acquisition- Acquire skills for basic to moderately complex neurodiagnostic testing procedures. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the EEG laboratory. Maintain knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient emergency situations and ensure patient safety at all times. Learn and maintain knowledge of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment, including use and handling of electrodes. Maintain knowledge of appropriate calibrations and how to make adjustments. Study for EEG registration (ABRET) test.

  • Perform EEG- Be trained to independently perform routine, critical care, and neonate EEGs in the laboratory and at the bedside of patients in the intensive care unit. Measure and accurately apply and remove electrodes in a timely manner, according to the international 10-20 system. Ensure that electrode impedances meet laboratory standards. Perform EEGs according to the standards of the laboratory (routine, sleep, bedside and long term video/EEG recordings).

  • Perform EEGs- To measure impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between areas of the brain using an EEG in order to obtain data used in diagnosing brain disorders in infants, children, & adolescents.

  • Data Management- Learn to write a comprehensive patient history. Explain test procedure to patient and family members. Assist in the training and orientation of EEG technologist trainees. Accurately enter pertinent patient information into database. Review EEG tests for appropriate documentation, then log, file, and maintain test and results. Respond to telephone inquiries as necessary. Review and ensure timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of departmental training program and Core Curriculum established by ASET within 18 months of hire.
• Must obtain BLS Certification within 1 month of hire and maintain BLS Certification.
• Neurodiagnostic Assistants must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire into this position and it must be maintained moving forward.
