Department/Unit: Developmental Disabilities and Behavioral Pediatrics (The Kelly O’Leary Center for ASD)
Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:00PM, school year schedule (Mid August through end of May)
Hours/FTE: 35-40hrs/Week 1.0 FTE
Expected Starting Salary Range: $16.50 - $18.00

SCOPE: Paraprofessional position in a classroom setting for students with autism.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interaction
Collaborate with team to plan, implement and communicate age-appropriate activities which facilitate the social, emotional, physical and mental development of assigned children. Provide responsive, developmentally appropriate and non-judgmental care for guiding children's behavior. Maintains and demonstrates high-level knowledge of child development and evidence-based practice. Works directly with students who may display significant problem behavior, including aggression, self-injury, property destruction, disruptive behavior, elopement, and pica. Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, implements evidence-based intervention plans to reduce problem behavior and build replacement skills.
Communication
Work with team to complete clear documentation and written reports that facilitate communication with parents, co-workers and regulatory agents including daily reports and data for intervention plans. Use a variety of communication strategies to support constructive relationships by being accessible, approachable, and engaged. Provide non-judgmental support for students and parents.
Assessment
In collaboration with classroom teacher, complete all documentation necessary for each student, including data related to educational and behavioral treatment. Collaborate and communicate assessment information with the classroom team. Link assessment information with success-oriented growth opportunities in all developmental domains.
Improvement
Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to team discussions. Partner with multi-disciplinary team including psychologist, education speech-language pathology, occupational therapy to provide child-centered care.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
1+ year of work experience in a related job discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in first aid, recognizing child abuse & recognition of common childhood diseases
- Experience working with students with autism and/or developmental disabilities
- Must be able to lift and physically intervene with a school age child and assist in self-care/hygiene
- Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
