We are seeking a mission-oriented and skilled Manager to join our Information Services for Research group at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. In this role, you will lead a team of information technology professionals who serve the research community by supporting critical application and data-related needs that helps advance research and discovery activities at a top pediatric academic medical center.
This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for developing teams and people capable of collaborating with researchers and administrative partners at the intersection of research, health care, and technology to help accelerate discoveries and improve health outcomes.
As a Manager of the Enterprise Research Systems team, you will take on a strategic and impactful role leading an experienced team of information technology professionals in their efforts to provide a world-class ecosystem for the conduct of research and discovery activities, guiding and mentoring team members while spearheading key projects and initiatives to accomplish strategic institutional objectives.
Note: This position is a hybrid role, with a combination of on-site and remote work. On-site presence is required for key meetings, team collaboration, or as determined by departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain Technical Tools:
Ensure the integrity and optimal functionality of technical tools, addressing technical issues, implementing updates, and optimizing system tools.
Configure tools to align with the specific needs of research initiatives.
Utilize the development lifecycle process, operating procedures, and documentation for implementing and supporting system solutions.
Collaborate on strategic planning to support research enterprise software/technology needs.
Systems Management
Design, develop, implement and maintain systems and technology aligned to serve the research community at CCHMC.
Drive adoption of scalable, supportable solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and data governance standards.
Recommend technology solutions which meet research and discovery needs, are cost effective and consistent with best practice.
Recommend the development and maintenance of policies and practices in support of process.
Develop, maintain and deliver effective communications and training to key stakeholders and communities in research.
Leadership and Mentoring:
Provide team leadership in service of completing technology initiatives, projects of programs
Mentor and assist team members, actively participating in the team's vision and direction.
Contribute to short-range and long-range planning for the team.
Provide work direction to staff aligned with tactical and strategic objectives of Information Services for Research
Elevate team member thinking and understanding of the field by infusing best practice knowledge into the work.
Manage selection, development and coaching of team members.
Contribute to departmental process improvement efforts.
Strategize with end users, vendors, and internal colleagues to ensure research applications support community needs.
Project Management:
Manage the team portfolio to ensure balance.
Oversee the development and validation requirements for system solutions with the research community.
Collect information for future systems development and feasibility studies.
Evaluate current systems for quality and utilization.
Manage Customer Relationships:
Serve as a subject matter expert on functionality.
Provide outstanding consultative and issue resolution support, working closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, clinicians, and Information Services professionals.
Offer training, utilize advanced problem-solving to troubleshoot issues, and provide ongoing support.
Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up.
Professional Growth and Development:
Stay current on emerging industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to research and healthcare technology.
Participate in educational opportunities to enhance knowledge.
Develop and maintain positive relationships, both internal and external to CCHMC.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field
5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
What would we like you to have:
Demonstrated experience in business intelligence, data visualization, data integration and interfaces, application and system testing, technical validation, cloud-based platforms, and research data security.
Functional knowledge in clinical, translational and basic research workflows and data.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and technology professional stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated success leading complex projects from inception to completion, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, and deployment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to effectively navigate a complex academic medical center environment.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage competing priorities.
Passion for leveraging technology to support research and improve healthcare outcomes.
In the absence of direct experience in all areas, demonstration of curiosity-driven, self-directed learning and a history of building partnerships to acquire technical knowledge and deliver results is essential.
