Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon Faculty Opportunity at Cincinnati Children's

Cincinnati Children's (CCHMC) is inviting applications for a Congenital Heart Surgeon. The individual selected will join the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at CCHMC which is comprised of a team dedicated to the most progressive surgical care of children with cardiothoracic pathology. Our research and innovation efforts within the division are well established and highly productive in several areas, including basic science, 3D modeling and virtual surgery, outcome and translational research. We have multiple collaborations with the Divisions of Cardiology, Molecular Cardiovascular Biology, as well as a myriad of other divisions throughout CCHMC. As one of the three integrated components of the Heart Institute [Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, & Molecular Cardiovascular Biology], a multidisciplinary business unit within Cincinnati Children’s, our division has enjoyed a highly esteemed profile internationally as an innovative leader in the management of pediatric and congenital cardiac patients.

While hired through CCHMC, the faculty appointment associated with this opportunity is granted by the University of Cincinnati (UC) whereby the Division has formed a strong collaborative relationship with leadership in cardiothoracic surgery. Surgeons within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at CCHMC may perform surgery at a number of locations. This position is to be a full faculty member in the CCHMC division of Congenital Heart Surgery and report to the Chief of the Division. The faculty will be a member of our Congenital Heart Surgery lab and able to participate on a variety of research efforts.

The selected candidate for this role will operate as a stand-by network surgeon who supports Cincinnati Children’s partnered hospital systems such as Akron Children’s Hospital, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital and other partners. The candidate will be able to reside where they desire but will need to be available within 72 hours to report to a partner site.

The surgeon will support the development and growth of the Heart Network with CCHMC while directly working with the Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at each Heart Network location. The assignments will vary in duration and notice period and may include vacation coverage, weekend and holiday on-call shifts, monthly shifts, coverage for several months, or an ongoing assignment. The duration of each assignment depends on the needs of the Heart Network Partner sites. Compensation will be commensurate for the time worked. The Heart Network seeks to positively impact the health of as many patients and families with cardiovascular disease as possible, wherever they live.

Education/ Experience

Faculty appointment will be consistent with the applicant’s qualifications and experience for either a Professor or an Associate Professor with University of Cincinnati Department of Pediatrics.

Requirements:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent.

Current active unrestricted medical license

Associate/Full Professor appointment

Board Certified/Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Congenital Heart Surgery or the international equivalent.

Appropriate medical credentialing through the Medical Staff Services office

Completion of all required CCHMC pre-employment activities (screening, background check, badging and orientation)

Must disclose any official disciplinary actions by a hospital, specialty board, medical association, or government agency.

Desirable qualifications:

Teaching and training competence in pediatrics for medical students, residents, and fellows.

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
