There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Associate position in the Divisions of Hospital Medicine and Translational and Clinical Pharmacology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The position is funded for 2 years. The research is focused on pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation of beta-lactam antibiotics in critically ill children and adults to build evidence for model-informed precision dosing and to translate this work to the bedside in patients. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) and translating research to patient care, and solid background in pharmacometrics and biostatistical approaches (such as nonlinear mixed effects modeling and Bayesian statistics) to evaluate and optimize pharmacotherapy. Candidates who have experience working with clinicians and pharmacists and providing patient care (e.g., MD, DO, PharmD) are preferred.


REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

-Conduct Research
Design, execute, and record analysis and experiments; develop and apply standard scientific protocols to research, and improve current methods and evaluate innovative techniques. Develop and implement human subject research protocols, and design experimental procedures and documentation in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations. Prepare, clean and analyze data. Maintain optimal protocol and accuracy by conducting regular quality and reproducibility checks.

-Dissemination of research
Draft, write and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles and abstracts. Present at local, national and international scientific meetings.

·Teamwork
Train and supervise the work of trainees in the program, as appropriate. Maintain an integral role in the group meetings, presentations and publications. Present information on research to others at group meetings, journal clubs and seminars. Demonstrate attendance and punctuality, ability to work independently & display initiative and dedication

·Leadership
May act as a mentor to more junior staff, serve as the contact for resolution of complex issues, provide education, guidance and work direction. May provide input and feedback to managers on hiring decisions, professional development and performance management.

·Financial Management
Assist in preparing, writing and maintaining fiscal budget. Monitor expenditures and prepare capital expenditure requests. Prepare, approve and initiate check requests; track funding, maintain accurate balance and resolve any discrepancies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


Required:

  • PhD, PharmD, MD/DO in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical sciences, Pharmacy, Biostatistics or related discipline at the time of appointment


Preferred:

  • Experience with working with clinicians and pharmacists, and providing patient care
  • Experience with PK/PD modeling and simulation and related software packages
  • Experience with biostatistics and related programming software
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team to learn and integrate knowledge across different disciplines
  • Excitement to learn new skills in pharmacometrics, including population PK modeling, PK/PD modeling and PBPK modeling

    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make appropriate conclusions based on statistical analysis

    • Familiarity with statistical software, statistical techniques, statistical process control principles, and graphical data display

    • Designing and conducting effective research studies that address measurement, data collection, and validity issues; identifying or developing appropriate, accurate, relevant and reliable measurement methods; drawing appropriate conclusions from study results
  • Communication – Advanced
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with ability with multidisciplinary team members
