At Cincinnati Children’s, you’ll be responsible for building and maintaining the day-to-day operation of our critical computer networks—including intranet, extranet, local area networks (LAN), and wide area networks (WAN). This position requires strong conceptual and hands-on technical expertise, developed through direct experience, to deliver innovative network solutions that support patient care, research, and discovery. You’ll apply your skills to solve complex challenges, work independently with moderate guidance, and contribute to the ongoing advancement of our wired and wireless infrastructure, VPN access, and remote site connectivity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of new or enhanced network infrastructure requests.
  • Identify the appropriate resources needed to complete small projects.
  • Support communication between internal and external stakeholders on project-related issues and developments.
  • Assist in developing and managing project plans.
  • Determine the scope and complexity of small to mid-sized projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful outcomes.

Analysis

  • Analyze, design, implement, and maintain moderately complex network infrastructure solutions to improve clinical care and patient management.
  • Support network infrastructure testing and document testing outcomes.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions.
  • Create, write, and prepare complete user and technical documentation.
  • Review existing documentation, providing corrections and enhancements.
  • Apply development lifecycle processes, operating procedures, and documentation standards when implementing and supporting solutions.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical support and problem-resolution assistance for production and process issues.
  • Troubleshoot and interpret error messages to resolve issues.
  • Identify required resources to resolve minor to mid-sized technical problems.
  • Implement solutions using appropriate Change Control methods.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison between Cincinnati Children’s departments and Information Services.
  • Support departmental efforts to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor and evaluate system performance and functionality to prevent potential issues.
  • Gather information for future development needs or feasibility studies.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation, handling incident resolution and problem determination.

Customer Service

  • Deliver outstanding end-user support and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for incident management.
  • Collaborate with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and resolution.
  • Adhere to and promote change management policies and procedures.
  • Model strong customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers.

Knowledge & Development

  • Expand knowledge and skills through cross-training, literature review, department meetings, and vendor education.
  • Develop and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
  • Motivate others and encourage teamwork, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Deliver oral and written presentations.
  • Conduct and participate in instructional seminars.
  • Gain expertise in several Cincinnati Children’s computer-based systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-4 years of professional experience in network engineering or infrastructure support.
  • Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Aruba Certified Switching Professional (ACSP), CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.
  • Experience configuring and supporting enterprise networking technologies (e.g., Cisco routers/switches, Cisco wireless, network fabric).
  • Knowledge of VPN, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), VLANs, and QoS.
  • Hands-on experience with wireless network infrastructure in a healthcare or enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and performance tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Splunk, Wireshark, Nagios).
  • Experience with network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.) to streamline operations.
  • Understanding of ITIL frameworks and change management processes.
  • Prior experience working in a healthcare or hospital environment, with knowledge of compliance requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical users.
