Inpatient Speech-Language Pathologist

Location: Burnet Campus

Job Profile Summary: Inpatient Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work to evaluate, diagnose, and treat oral-motor/feeding/swallowing, speech, language, social communication, and cognitive-communication disorders for patients during inpatient admission and support transition for these patients to outpatient services at the time of hospital discharge.

Requires strong conceptual and working knowledge developed through direct, clinically relevant experiences. The candidate will work toward independent clinical care with inpatient Speech-Language Pathology mentors to successfully meet clinical competencies in various inpatient units.

Job Description:

  • 1.0 FTE (40 HOURS/WEEK) for Inpatient at Burnet Campus, including routine Saturdays
  • Scheduled holiday coverage in rotation with inpatient Speech Pathology team

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnostic Evaluations: selecting and completing appropriate clinical and/or instrumental assessment of feeding/swallowing and clinical/non-standard and standardized assessments as appropriate for speech, language, and cognition. Utilizing the results of patient history, clinical, instrumental, and/or standardized assessment information to inform the patient’s plan of care; provide results and counseling to patients/families and members of the care team.Establish appropriate treatment frequency during admission and criteria for discharge of services.
  • Treatment: Involving patient and family in the planning, formulating appropriate long-term and short-term goals, review and revising goals as appropriate based on response to services.Using appropriate service delivery model, structure sessions to accomplish goals and document progress and required documentation/forms in the electronic medical record.
  • Clinical Care and Follow-Up: maintain active engagement with patients and family to support positive clinical outcomes.Utilize strong interpersonal communication skills to solve conflicts and advocate for patients, families, and services.
  • Clinical Productivity: maintain awareness of productivity expectations and active awareness and engagement in work to meet requirements.
  • Clinical Advancement: serve as an expert clinician with basic competency areas and advanced competencies with further experience.Pursue a plan to develop advanced competencies that represent needs of the inpatient Speech-Language Pathology team.Demonstrate self-direction in choosing and completing relevant continuing education.
  • Interprofessional Practice/Team Requirements: demonstrate spirit of cooperation, respect, trust, time management, and professionalism. Seek to collaborate with members of Speech-Language Pathology and all disciplines part of each patient care team.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or communication sciences and disorders.
  • Active permanent Ohio license in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • 3 years of clinical experience with preference given to candidates with pediatric experience.
