JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff - Assist in the selection, development, scheduling, motivation, appraisal, and coaching of staff. Coordinate and direct staff, working in conjunction with director to develop work standards. Maintain staff professional growth through appropriate orientation, in-service training, seminars, workshops, and continuing education to achieve the desired level of performance. Provide operational leadership personnel and possibly serve as temporary site manager in the absence of the Director. Maintain proper scheduling of assigned personnel. Prioritize staff & assigned resources to properly execute emergency response procedures regarding medical equipment.

  • Planned maintenance - Implement planned maintenance (PM) activities and evaluate PM procedures/processes. Report to the Director those items affecting operations (present and future). Advise and participate in ad-hoc committees on medical equipment issues, as needed.

  • Planning & Reporting Assist in evaluating/updating the five-year Capital Equipment Plan. Ensure compliance of proper documentation of all areas of responsibility (I.E., work orders, PM schedules, etc.). Coordinate the evaluation of new, updated, and/or proposed equipment in conjunction with the Clinical Engineer and recommend equipment purchases and standardization. Perform maintenance and repairs of medical equipment, as needed. In conjunction with the Director, develop and implement departmental goals and plans. Provide leadership to the department regarding both personnel and technical issues. Enhance organizational performance by recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data, and providing input to department discussions. Actively promote the process of knowledge transfer and technician development.

  • Communication - As assigned, actively participate in various CCHMC committees covering equipment related issues. Maintain knowledge of new and current trends in health care equipment and technologies. Participate in continuing education and training to constantly update technical and personal skills. Interface daily with Purchasing, Patient Services, and other Clinical/Lab/Research areas to effectively manage the medical equipment inventory. Work with the Coordinator, Director, and Clinical Engineer to address daily concerns. Continually develop and improve all aspects of customer service skills. Provide input to the Database covering design, development, and maintenance issues. Coordinate with the database application developers/designers and database user group within the CE department. Maintain inventory accuracy within the database for all CCHMC equipment and service-related histories. Recommend reports used to analyze time tracking, PM completion, repair work order histories, and technician work schedules. Analyze data generated from the reports to set priorities and expedite operations and repairs. Recommend equipment replacement based on life cycle criteria and technology advancements.

  • Safety - Ensure that work areas are organized and provide a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in related field

  • 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

  • Preferred: Academic work aligned with Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Core Competencies for the Biomedical Equipment Tech, BMET Associate Degree, Military Training

  • Preferred: BMET Certification
