Our Commercial Underwriting Office is seeking a manufacturing and wholesale distribution industry vertical leader. This role is responsible for driving strategic growth and underwriting excellence within this key industry segment. This role will lead the development and execution of strategies that align with organizational goals, ensuring consistency across all business units. The leader will collaborate with senior executives and cross-functional teams to define underwriting appetite, establish best practices, and deliver training that enhances performance and profitability. A strong emphasis will be placed on leveraging data-driven insights, fostering agency relationships, and positioning the company as a market leader in the manufacturing and wholesale distribution space. This position is based at our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio.
The pay range for this position is $160,000 - $200,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

- defining underwriting appetite and guidelines for the vertical across all business units
- Provide collaboration and integration by:
- partnering with Sales and Commercial Lines leadership to embed industry strategies into regional plans
- working closely with Product, Claims, Loss Control, PARM, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency
- Provide underwriting excellence by:
- providing guidance on underwriting tools, training programs, and best practices
- collaborating with Quality Assurance to design specialized audits for trend analysis and compliance measurement
- Provide market engagement by:
- strengthening national agency relationships by engaging with industry practice leaders
- representing the organization at industry associations, conferences, and educational events
- Provide innovation and growth by:
- identifying emerging trends and recommending new product opportunities
- using data and analytics to inform underwriting strategy and performance improvement
- Provide talent development by:
- attracting, developing, and retaining top underwriting talent
- supporting career development, staffing plans, and skill stratification within the vertical
Be equipped with:
- a deep underwriting expertise across all lines of business for manufacturers, including small business, middle market, and loss-sensitive accounts
- proven ability to set and achieve strategic objectives
- strong leadership skills with experience guiding teams toward desired outcomes
- proficiency in leveraging data and analytics to drive decision-making
- exceptional communication and relationship-building skills across all organizational levels
- a broad understanding of cross-functional operations (Sales, Claims, Loss Control, etc.)
- the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment while managing multiple priorities
- executive presence and the ability to influence at senior levels
Bring education and experience from:
- bachelor's degree preferred
- 10+ years of underwriting experience in the property and casualty industry with manufacturing focus preferred
- 5+ years of formal or informal leadership preferred
- prior experience in strategy or underwriting office roles preferred
