The Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an Excess and Surplus Lines Book Review Underwriter to support agency book consolidation initiatives.
This role is responsible for facilitating and executing agency book reviews by underwriting, pricing, and placing large portfolios of E&S business as part of strategic consolidation efforts. The Book Review Underwriter partners closely with territory underwriters, team leaders, agency leadership, and internal stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition of business into CSU while maintaining underwriting discipline and service excellence.
The ideal candidate brings strong analytical underwriting skills, the ability to manage complex portfolios, and the communication skills necessary to guide agencies through a structured and collaborative consolidation process.
Be ready to:
- facilitate the agency book review process from initiation through execution
- serve as the primary point of contact for agency partners, providing clear guidance, transparency, and proactive communication throughout the consolidation cycle
- review and prequalify large books of commercial excess and surplus accounts for underwriting eligibility
- analyze competitor policy terms, pricing, and conditions to develop competitive coverage solutions
- underwrite, quote, bind, and issue commercial excess and surplus business in accordance with underwriting authority and guidelines
- collaborate with territory underwriters and underwriting leadership on portfolio strategy, pricing, and risk selection
- track progress to achieve consolidation objectives and provide regular status and results reporting to management for sharing with agency leadership
- participate in agency meetings throughout the duration of the book review and consolidation process
- ensure adherence to all excess and surplus lines regulatory, documentation, and compliance requirements
Be equipped with:
- property and casualty underwriting experience
- proficient use of Microsoft® Word, Excel and Outlook
- strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- strong decision-making, analytical, and negotiating abilities
- excellent communication and project management skills
- demonstrated ability to analyze complex underwriting information and work effectively with large datasets
- a strategic mindset and ability to collaborate with team members and agents to develop mutually beneficial solutions
- skilled use of verbal communication to explain, negotiate, and present information, with sound judgment on when to use verbal versus written communication
Bring education or experience from:
- a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- commercial property and casualty underwriting experience
- prior excess and surplus casualty underwriting experience (strongly preferred)
- professional designations such as AINS, AU, ASLI, CPCU, or similar (preferred)
- knowledge of our policy administration system, Esteem and/or Broker Management Systems (preferred)
