Our Commercial Underwriting Office is currently seeking a data analyst. This role is responsible for using project management skills and data awareness to leverage existing databases and reporting to support the Commercial Lines department and its business partners. This role utilizes basic querying languages and tools to create meaningful statistical-based analysis and reporting. The data analyst will partner with data engineers and business community to create fast, accurate and effective customer data driven analysis. This position is based at our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio.
The pay range for this position is $55,000 - $100,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.
Be ready to:
- provide data and insight with depth, clarity, speed and precision to deliver the best analysis and data-driven strategies to primary stakeholder(s) and their key personnel
- assist your primary stakeholder(s) to build, monitor and achieve their goals through an understanding of internal and industry trends
- collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources to support business decisions
- support general departmental reporting and analysis functions
Be equipped with:
- the ability to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to pinpoint data trends and anomalies as well as comprehend technical and logical concepts
- proficiency in collecting, organizing, analyzing and disseminating significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- the capacity to responsibly work with data incorporating the principles of balancing, governing, labeling and optimizing
- the capacity to responsibly communicate data and analyses by considering the data literacy of the audience and through traditional data visualization techniques and tools such as Power BI and Excel
- a foundational understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts and uses
- strong customer service skills including active listening, empathy, adaptability and time management along with excellent communication and presentation skills
- the ability to develop positive working relationship with team members and the Commercial Lines department
- strong critical thinking abilities
Bring education and experience from:
- bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field
- proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., SQL, SAS, Excel)
- possesses basic knowledge of or willingness to learn:
- financial and insurance key metrics
- calendar year, Accident Year, and Policy Year concepts
- data visualization techniques
- understanding of key metrics including the calculations of retention, PAR, renewal premium change, net rate increase, hit ratio, and combined ratio
- proven experience as a data analyst or in a similar role
- certification in data analytics or related fields preferred (e.g., AIDA, Certified Analytics Professional (CAP))
