Instructor, Mathematics Overview: The Humanities and Sciences Division at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track teaching position in Mathematics. The successful candidate will be qualified to lead the department’s efforts in the acceleration of gateway mathematics completion for students who might otherwise require developmental coursework. As part of our team of highly qualified faculty, Mathematics Instructors are expected to teach developmental and college-level mathematics courses; provide high quality instruction; work with our faculty and administrative staff to improve student learning experiences; and be committed to the mission and values of the College. General Responsibilities: - Serve as instructor for a range of mathematics courses including but not limited to Pre-algebra, Algebra, Quantitative Reasoning, Statistics, and Calculus.
- Participate in mathematics curriculum development and review.
- Support the mission of the College, Humanities & Sciences Division, and Mathematics Department.
- Assist in maintaining and updating Mathematics curriculum.
- Serve as course lead (course keeper) for MAT courses.
- Engage in committee work and College-wide service.
- Engage in professional development to stay up to date on the latest effective teaching practices and procedures.
- Be available to teach day or evening classes at Cincinnati State’s main campus in Clifton and satellite campuses.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of tenure-track faculty members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties: - Deliver learner-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning, student involvement and student success, and by providing timely feedback to students.
- Provide students with syllabi that outline student learning outcomes, clear course expectations, evaluations, topical outlines, and schedules that follow departmental and divisional standards.
- Prepare course materials and lessons.
- Develop real-life learning activities that align with the learning outcomes defined in the Math Department’s standardized syllabi.
- Communicate effectively with students and distribute relevant course materials in a timely manner.
- Serve on department, division, and college committees, and participate in college governance.
- Participate in new initiatives as needed to enhance students’ understanding of course material and assist in increasing student retention.
- Submit student grades, administrative reports, and conduct other required record-keeping in a thorough and timely manner.
- Maintain office hours in accordance with the Humanities & Sciences Division’s policy.
- Attend College, departmental, and divisional meetings.
Minimum Qualifications: - Master’s degree in mathematics or master’s degree in a related field with a cohesive set of at least 18 semester hours (or quarter hour equivalent) of graduate course work in mathematics from a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent.
- Experience as the primary instructor of college-level courses at a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications: - Three or more years of experience as the primary instructor of college-level mathematics courses at a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent.
- Experience teaching at a two-year technical or community college.
- Experience teaching corequisite math courses.
- Experience teaching Introductory/Intermediate Algebra, Quantitative Reasoning, Statistics, Math for Elementary School Teachers, and/or Technical Math courses.
- Experience with course design and evaluation.
- Experience teaching and developing online courses.
- Experience submitting Mathematics courses for statewide transfer approval, such as Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Ohio Transfer 36 or Transfer Assurance Guarantee or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Ohio’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program and basic responsibilities of the College for overseeing curriculum alignment at CCP partner high school locations.
