General Statement of Duties
The Graphic Design Co-Op in the Department of Transportation and Engineering, Division of Transportation Planning and Urban Design, performs many duties involving projects that incorporate two-dimensional design solutions, both in print and web applications, as well as environmental graphic design projects such as comprehensive signage and wayfinding systems, community gateways and public art. These duties are performed with the oversight and guidance of the Supervising Graphic Designer. The Graphic Design section also works with larger teams of professionals, both city and private sector architects, engineers, planners and government officials. The Graphic Designer is required to handle these job duties in an effective, efficient and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

The Graphic Design Co-op is required to perform the following job duties under the direct oversight and guidance of the Supervisory Graphic Designer:
- Work on a variety of print, web, and environmental graphic design projects as assigned.
- Conduct research and produce preliminary design concepts; review with design team and client; modify designs as appropriate; create mock-ups; refine and finalize designs; participate in the preparation of final digital artwork files for print and fabrication.
- Operate and understand MAC and PC computer hardware and related design software: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office programs; use a digital camera; take and edit photos and graphics.
- Willingness to learn the City of Cincinnati CMS software (MURA) to assist with web-based projects and create graphics for social media posts.
- Attend project meetings with clients, community members, design team members and other professionals (3CDC, DCI, Neighborhood Community Organizations as well as internal City agencies: Finance, Water Works, City Manager’s Office, etc.).
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials, design team members, community representatives and the general public.
Required Education and Experience

Applicant must be working towards a degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in graphic design or a closely related field. Portfolio required.
In order to qualify for the Intern/Co-op/Extern Program, a student must:- Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Individuals under eighteen will require a work permit
- Be enrolled in an accredited institution
- Submit a City job application for employment
Working and Physical Conditions
Predominately indoor studio/office environment; exposure to computer screens; some outdoor work required. Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; light lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required.
