General Statement of Duties

This employee performs oral prophylaxis, provides oral health instructions, exposes and processes radiographs, maintains a recall system, and participates in community outreach programs for a dental clinic. Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Knowledge of:
Oral anatomy.
Procedures in the performance of oral prophylaxes.
Aseptic and sterilization techniques.
Maintenance and care of equipment.
Concepts of prevention and etiology of dental diseases.

Skill to:
Perform oral prophylaxes.
Expose, process, and mount dental radiographs.
Topically apply fluoride.
Operate a recall system.
Sterilize instruments.

Ability to:
Provide oral health instructions.
Complete restorative and periodontal charting.
Schedule patients.
Maintain dental operatory in clean, organized, and sanitary manner.
Assist Dentist in the absence of Dental Assistant.
Exercise sensitivity toward the needs of others.
Communicate with others.

Required Education and Experience

Each applicant must be licensed to practice dental hygiene in the State of Ohio. (LICENSE MUST BE ATTACHED OR THE APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Each applicant must show evidence of immunity to or inoculation against the hepatitis B virus when such inoculation does not threaten their health and well-being. If the inoculation does threaten the health and well-being of the applicant, documentation to such from a physician must be presented.

MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

Removes supra- and sub-gingival calcareous deposits and polishes clinical crowns of teeth.
Performs periodontal scaling, soft tissue curettage, and root planing when indicated.
Provides oral hygiene instructions.
Exposes, processes, and mounts dental radiographs.
Provides topical applications of fluorides.
Sterilizes instruments.
Maintains equipment and dental operatory.
Completes restorative and periodontal dental charting.
Maintains a recall system and confirms patient appointments.
Participates in outreach programs for community education.
Assists Dentist in the absence of an assistant.
Prepares reports for the Associate Director of Dental Services.
