PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

General Statement of Duties
This employee performs activities related to the preparation and distribution of prescription medications under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist and in accordance with state and federal laws. Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Knowledge of:
Pharmacy principles, practices, procedures, and laws.
General mathematics.
Pharmaceutical generic and trade names.
Prescription nomenclature.
Medical terminology.
Personal computer and PC software applications such as data base, word processing, and data entry.
Skill to:
Operate pharmacy equipment including personal computers, counting machine, and laser printers.
Use pharmaceutical software applications.Ability to:
Fill prescription order accurately with close attention to detail.
Interpret physician orders and accurately fill medications.
Perform mathematical calculations.
Stand for extended periods of time while performing pharmacy support duties.
Lift, store, and carry supplies as needed.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Interact effectively with other health care staff.
Maintain accurate records and inventory of drugs and supplies. Required Education and Experience

Each applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent, must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy and must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). In addition, each applicant must have a minimum of one year experience in a licensed pharmacy department. Successful completion of a certified pharmacy technician program is preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Driver's License.MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATIONMilitary education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations. Examples of Work Performed

Assists the Pharmacist in the processing, filling, and dispensing of prescription orders. All prescription work must be checked and verified by a Pharmacist.
Probationary Period
Customer service functions consisting of answering the telephone, receiving and interviewing patients regarding their prescription needs, or appropriate referral to a Pharmacist.
Checks pharmaceutical and other supply stock weekly and orders necessary supplies.
Receives weekly orders, checks for accuracy, and puts orders away.
Maintains inventory by periodic checking for expired drugs and keeping stock neat and orderly.
Maintains and files counting machine drug cassettes and pre-pack stock as necessary.
Maintains and cleans equipment such as the pill counting machine, laser printer, and refrigerator.
Maintains and stores pharmaceutical records as necessary.
Exhibits a polite, courteous attitude and image when interacting with patients and health professionals in the clinic environment.
Maintains cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the pharmacy environment.
Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Maintains competency through appropriate training programs.Six months
