General Statement of Duties

The Recreation Specialist REC@Nite position in the Cincinnati Recreation Commission's main office supports the planning, execution, and breakdown of REC @ Nite teen-focused events and programs. This role is responsible for helping create a safe, structured, engaging, and positive environment for teens during evenings and late -night programming. This role involves providing outstanding customer service, ensuring event setups, execution, and breakdown of REC@Nite teen -focused events and programs run smoothly, and assisting with event coordination before, during, and after events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with setup and breakdown of REC@Nite teen events, including tables, chairs, equipment, signage, and activity stations
  • Support on-site operations such as teen check-in, supervision, crowd flow, and activity facilitation
  • Actively monitor teen participants to ensure safety, appropriate behavior, and program engagement
  • Provide clear guidance and positive reinforcement to teen participants
  • Help enforce program rules, safety procedures, and the REC@Nite code of conduct
  • De-escalate minor conflicts and promptly report concerns to supervisors
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe program areas throughout events
  • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and partners supporting teen programming
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Knowledge of:
General knowledge of standard office methods of administration, data entry, customer service.
Basic business English, including spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.
Basic math.
Basic accounting principles.
Basic computer functions.
Microsoft Office software.
Photo Shop and Sketchup.
CAD.
MAC.
Marketing computer software and online applications (CRM tools, Online analytics, Google Adwords etc.).

Skill to:
Type from clear copy, with a minimum of errors.
Type final copies of reports, letters, tables, numerical data, and other materials from longhand or rough draft copy.
File accurately using alphabetical, numerical, and chronological systems.

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Experience working with teens or youth-focused programs
  • Background in recreation, education, mentoring, or events
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain

Ability to:
Write legibly.
Speak effectively on the phone and in person.
Proofread for errors.
Use English accurately (spelling, punctuation, and grammar).
Make corrections to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format errors when typing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Plan, organize, and prioritize work to adhere to deadlines.
Make sound judgments based on logical analysis.
Use marketing computer software and online applications
Use computer to send and receive electronic messages.
Use computer and office related software packages, such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Use Photo Shop, Sketchup, and CAD.
Use basic office equipment.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and late-night hours
Strong communication, supervision, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with teens from diverse backgrounds
Ability to follow instructions, safety guidelines, and program policies

Required Education and Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have valid Driver's License for those positions which require driving.

Graduate of or enrolled in a college level program in architecture, engineering, or planning.

Excellent knowledge of MAC, MS Office, marketing computer software and online applications (CRM tools, Online analytics, Google Adwords etc.)

MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

Working and Physical Conditions

Environmental Conditions: Office environment: exposure to computer screens; working closely with others, ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions exposure to extreme weather conditions; work below ground; slippery/uneven surfaces; ladders/scaffolds; high noise levels; exposure to dust, asbestos, fumes.

Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling; moderate lifting/carrying; up to 40-50 pounds, general manual dexterity required. Must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
