General Statement of Duties

The Greater Cincinnati Water Works Youth to Work program aims to equip young individuals with essential skills, real-world experience, and professional guidance to prepare them for successful careers. The GCWW Youth to Work program will provide students with an overall understanding of the divisions and positions through a work rotation process.

Must be willing to take direction from supervisors and managers. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must follow Greater Cincinnati Water Works rules, regulations, and guidelines, especially those relating to safety and customer service. Must maintain confidentiality in accordance with regulations.

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Youth 14 to 18 years.
Must have a valid work permit (14 and 15 years old) or parental consent (16 and 17 years old). Must complete application and submit supplemental parental forms. Must attend 20 hour orientation/training session.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Type letters, reports, and other documents from rough typed or longhand drafts. Answers phone calls, greets visitors, take messages, answering questions and complaints, and providing appropriate information and assistance. Copies, collates, and addresses material for mailing and routing. Receives, opens and routes incoming mail. Basic landscaping and grounds keeping Cleans floors, walls, and equipment. All duties will vary depending on the community partner business assignment.

Knowledge of:
Standard office methods, ethics, and practices
Knowledge of computer and software such as Microsoft Office
Answer phones and take messages
Type, file, and copy materials
Knowledge of basic office equipment such as fax, scanner or copy machine
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to:
Prioritize, assign work, and supervise others.
Understand and follow instructions and directions.
Maintain clean and safe workplace indoors and outdoors.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Plan, supervise, and coordinate tasks.

Required Education and Experience

In order to qualify for the Intern/ a student must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Sign a work permit for Individuals under eighteen
  • Submit a City job application for employment
  • Have a valid picture ID or Driver's License
  • Pass drug screen and background check

Working and Physical Conditions

Physical Conditions:
Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; manual dexterity required; lifting 20 lbs.; operate small hand tools or power equipment; moderate pushing, pulling, carrying.
