General Statement of Duties
Under general direction, this employee serves as a key member of the Traffic and Roads Operations Division leadership team. The Assistant Superintendent assists the Superintendent in overseeing and directing daily operations and long-term initiatives related to street and roadway maintenance, traffic operations, signage and pavement markings, right-of-way infrastructure, snow and ice control, and emergency response activities.
This role includes responsibility for supervising multiple operational sections, leading performance improvement initiatives, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring consistent service delivery aligned with departmental goals and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Superintendent acts as a key liaison between field operations, administrative leadership, community stakeholders, and elected officials. Acts on behalf of the Superintendent as needed. Develop schedules, deploy resources, and coordinate responses to emergencies or service disruptions

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires three years of supervisory experience in public works, field operations, construction roadway, maintenance, traffic operations, infrastructure maintenance, or a related field.
Up to two years of the required experience may be substituted with education in a related field at the following rate:• An associates Degree,A valid Driver’s License is required.

• 30 semester (or 45 quarter) credit hours = 1 year of experienceOTHER REQUIREMENTSMust have a valid Driver's License.Must be an excellent communicator and team builder.Other specialized work site certifications may be required.

Environmental Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to office computer screens; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; work around machinery and moving vehicles, on ladders or scaffolds, below ground; work with electrical energy; exposure to dust and fumes from construction sites, roadways, motorized equipment and cutting torches.
Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity required; must be able to operate assigned vehicles.- Examples of Work Performed

Leads daily operations and supervises staff in roadway maintenance, traffic control, signage installation, pavement marking, and right-of-way infrastructure Oversees snow and ice control operations, including planning, deployment, and post-event review. Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements City and departmental personnel policies and procedures; review attendance and performance records. Collaborates with Human Resources on hiring, performance management, coaching, and training Coordinates with supervisors to develop schedules and implement citywide or seasonal programs. Conducts investigations and debriefs following workplace accidents, complaints, or service failures Develops policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures; works with supervision to establish and enforce safety policies and procedures. Recommends and implement goals and objectives; make projections of material needs and personnel needs. Coordinates work programs and assigned activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations, consults with representatives of outside groups as appropriate. Monitors divisional performance and contributes to the development of operational goals and benchmarks. Develops reports and presentations for leadership, Council briefings, and internal meetings. Ensures compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local ordinances related to solid waste and encroachment Responds to service requests and complaints from the public, Council offices, and the City Manager’s Office Represents the Superintendent at internal and external meetings as assigned. Assists with contract oversight and vendor coordination when applicable.
