CLASS SUMMARY:

Responsible for skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical/mechanical/industrial systems that are part of the environmental systems at the Airport. Emphasis on pumps, motors, valves, and Programmable Logic Control (PLC). Preventative maintenance and repair on the same systems. Operate various measuring, diagnostic and testing equipment.

The environmental system is comprised of infrastructure and processes to collect, convey, store, and treat spent aircraft deicing fluid via a 6-million gallon per day biological wastewater treatment plant. The infrastructure includes diversion valves for the operation of deice pads to collect spent aircraft deicing fluid, oil/water separators, detention ponds/facilities, pump stations and the Stormwater Treatment Plant (SWTP).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Performs maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of electrical systems/equipment related to stormwater treatment systems.
  • Maintains adequate records of preventative maintenance, repairs made, and time worked.
  • Maintains, calibrates and safely repairs mechanical systems such as pumps, bearings, valves, gears, etc.
  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting on single stage centrifugal blowers.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation on various diffusers.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on diversion valves for deice pads related to stormwater treatment systems, and associated conveyance equipment and processes.
  • Oversight of contractors to ensure they are working safely and within the established job scope.
  • Complete work orders and record time/material utilized on jobs, through a computer-based asset management system.
  • Attends the Electrical Safety Committee Meetings as a member of the committee on a rotational basis.
  • Assists the Resource Operations Coordinator in research and ordering spare parts for equipment/instruments.
  • Assists in inventorying system equipment/instruments.
  • Responds to the airport’s environmental systems emergencies via an on-call rotation; maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment.
  • Assists in emergencies situations on CVG Airport property, as directed by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Other duties may include confined space entry, snow removal, operating heavy equipment, data entry, and supporting other needs of the Airport as assigned.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED and five years’ experience in relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as listed above.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyman Electrician License or higher
  • Commercial Driver’s License – Class A or B (or the ability to acquire a Class A within 6 months of the hire date) Preferred
  • Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance
  • OSHA 30 hour Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Trouble shooting electrical/mechanicals systems
  • Electrical theory and calculations;
  • Motor controls;
  • Mechanical concepts, i.e. engine operation, maintaining industrial equipment;
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Cutting, soldering and welding;
  • Mechanical concepts, i.e. structures, physics, hydraulic systems, high speed rotating equipment, pump and engine operations;
  • Generators and Automatic Transfer Switches;
  • Equipment and associate conduit/wiring installation;
  • High voltage, motor, instrument and lighting controls
  • Programmable Logic Controls (PLC’s);
  • Preventative Maintenance practices;
  • Fluid power and pneumatics;
  • Generators, VFDs and UPS;
  • OSHA standards, National Electric Code guidelines.

SKILL IN:

  • Clearly and effectively communicating both orally and in writing;
  • Use of a variety of computer-based technologies including word processing and spreadsheets;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require working in confined spaces, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
