Freight Accounting Supervisor

Job Description
The Freight Accounting Supervisor is a full time, exempt position, and is responsible for effective management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, claims resolution, and other administrative tasks.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of carrier freight invoices and principal invoices, in accordance with site expectations and customer terms
• Manage the reconciliation of accounts payable and accounts receivable for each invoicing run and for the overall monthly P&L statements
• Maintain accounts receivable within the accepted levels as provided from the general transportation or finance manager
• Coordinate timely and effective resolution of claims that satisfies company, client, and carrier expectations
• Direct and monitor the daily activities and functions for field accounting coordinators
• Coordinate and support compliance with the company’s financial processes, including P&L management, forecasting, budgeting, and auditing procedures
• Communicate with corporate accounts payable and accounts receivable associates as needed
• Train associates in all facets of the freight accounting systems to prepare them for advancement, and coordinate participation in cross training programs with freight operations
• Assist the field accounting coordinators with carrier inquiries regarding past due payments, payment applications, payment schedule, billing errors, credit balances, and other general accounting topics
• Provide customer support to principals and operations, as needed, including resolving customer invoicing issues/exceptions, providing vendor numbers, answering questions/issues, etc.
• Identify, coordinate, and support the development and completion of continuous improvement opportunities within freight accounting and operations
• Develop and lead benchmarking studies of freight accounting activities, including A/P and claims resolution
• Participate as key member of start-up team with emphasis on project management, systems requirements and integration, and work process development
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, required
• 1 – 3 years prior experience with billing, accounts receivable/payable, preferably in a transportation setting, required
