DHL currently has an opening for a U.S. Head of Safety.

The Director, Safety is responsible for directing policy and ensuring compliance of existing policies and programs to meet company and governmental compliance in the U.S. service stations and gateways. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader with excellent communication skills, the ability to create and deliver high impact presentations to customers, executives and employees, and have the mindset that supports DHL’s corporate strategies and goals. The position is responsible for a highly motivated, empowered team of professionals dedicated to ensuring DHL’s adherence to unit cost management, operational compliance and service excellence. The candidate reports to the SVP, US Network Operations for DHL Express.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Is a part of the US Operations Senior Management Team
  • Works closely with regional and global partners to ensure DHL compliance with regards to safety.
  • Leads the U.S. Safety Team to ensure safety compliance and prevention of incidents
  • Acts as subject matter expert on safety policy
  • Maintain awareness of change in regulatory and governmental ordinances
  • Establishes and implements policy change
  • Analyzes work area hazards and injuries to determine root cause and target procedural, instructional or equipment changes to prevent reoccurrence
  • Monitors and reviews worker's compensation claims of employees data detailing cost, lost time, claim frequency, and claim duration
  • Supports periodic claims reviews with management, adjusters, attorneys and casualty claims analysts
  • Lead, foster, and sustain a culture that instills safety as a core value at all levels of development

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Typically requires BS/BA and a minimum of 8 years’ experience in related field
  • Operational &/or industry background preferred
  • Ability to shape direction and influence senior management
  • Capability and subtlety to navigate through a matrix organization
  • Ability to successfully manage a team, including peer managers and senior managers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of managers and executives
  • Must display a confident demeanor always while always supporting DHL values and 4 Pillars: Motivated People, Great Service Quality, Loyal Customers, and Profitable Network

The anticipated annual salary range for this position varies by location, as follows:
Jamaica, NY: $180,600 - $240,800/yr., DOE
Chicago, IL: $165,550 - $219,400/yr., DOE
Los Angeles, CA: $170,850 - $227,800/yr., DOE
