The department 723 „Customer Insurance (CI)“ has as a mission to know business needs, its specialties and to tailor customer insurance products at net premium costs to DHL’s customer’s needs whilst at the same time managing and mitigating risks. Key Responsibilities:
Business Development Specialist (m/w/d)
Steering the business development of the products Cargo Insurance and Shipment Value Protection for the divisions DGFF, Express, Supply Chain and P&P in Germany, Switzerland and Austria (DACH region), acting as an interface between Sales, Product Management, Operations, Finance, Compliance and Regulation
- Actively driving revenue growth of insurance products and ensuring a consistent and market‑aligned positioning of insurance offerings
- Increasing awareness of insurance products within the BUs
- Identifying and implementing concrete growth initiatives for defined target customer segments
- Participating in BU meetings and country‑specific alignments to ensure close integration with operational business
- Accompanying customer and key account meetings in close cooperation with divisional Sales teams
- Provide daily guidance to BU’s teams to assess risks and propose best solution either for annual agreements or ad-hoc referrals
- Responsibility for the timeliness, competitiveness and regulatory compliance of policies and product structures, acting as the central interface to Regulatory and Compliance functions
- Cooperation with our IRM underwriting team to develop products using DHL’s captive solution
- Cooperation with insurance partners to place, adapt and further develop insurance products
- Analysis and evaluation of market requirements, customer needs and competitive offerings
- Definition and steering of pricing logic, including guiding rates, local deviations and special cases
- Evaluation of opt‑in and opt‑out models from a customer and market perspective
- Ensuring compliance with all local and international regulations
- Monitoring of claims, loss ratios and relevant risk trends
- Ensuring transparency of claims processes and key claims metrics for BUs and Management
- Early communication to BUs on regulatory changes, risks and relevant developments
- Design and delivery of training sessions for Sales teams and BUs
- Communication of product benefits, coverage details, exclusions and processes
- Support of Sales teams in customer discussions with subject‑matter expertise and supporting materials
- Advisory support and knowledge transfer to the claims community through information and training sessions
- Execution of monthly reporting, e.g. on revenues, claims and performance metrics
- Preparation and analysis of figures at BU and Group level
- Regular sharing of reports and insights with SVPs, CFOs, Sales leads and Champions
- Contribution to the establishment and maintenance of a consistent data basis for insurance‑relevant information across various systems
- Identification of system gaps and improvement of data availability (e.g. intranet, country solutions)
- Support of system and process developments at country level
- Derivation and operational implementation of the global insurance strategy for the DACH region
Professional Requirements:
- Completed university degree in business administration with a focus on insurance management or a comparable qualification
- Several years of professional experience in steering, (further) developing or marketing marine insurance products within a logistics company, an insurer or a specialized insurance broker
- Own sales experience with direct customer contact, desirable
- Experience in handling business and performance KPIs
- Experience in insurance pricing and price steering, desirable
- Sound technical knowledge of Marine Cargo Insurance and claims handling
- Very strong MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Very good command of German and English, both written and spoken
