Position Summary: This position serves a dual role of supporting the Team Lead of Life Skills program room and providing direct support to the individuals served in that program room. Job Responsibilities: - Supports the Team Lead in the delivery of best-practice services in a Life Skills program room through planning, scheduling, and delegating work activities to direct support professionals.
- Assists Team Lead to ensure required documentation is completed in a timely manner per licensing requirements, including attendance, daily notes, and personal care logs.
- Assists Team Lead to provide programs to support life-long learning, social interaction, purposeful activity, and leisure experiences, including daily activities that support adult learning objectives.
- Provides daily care to individuals services to address basic life need, including physical handling of adults for wheelchair transfers, positioning, personal hygiene, dressing, emergency response, and other such tasks depending on the ability of individual served.
- Demonstrates knowledge of individuals served by reading individual files, reviewing assessments, individualized goals and performance data, identifies preferences, means of participation, method of problem solving, and proficiency in performing various tasks.
- Uses integrated teaching approaches that embed opportunities to improve social, communication, cognitive, and motor skills during practical life activities and routines.
- Uses appropriate prompting techniques to foster increased independence for functional tasks.
- Follows and supports DSPs to follow the daily training schedule.
- Shapes the development of appropriate behavior and social interaction skills by encouraging communication with others, modeling positive social skills, redirecting, and purposefully mentoring development of personal and social responsibility.
- Teaches and models conflict resolution and assertiveness. Guides adults in applying concepts in interaction with others.
- Implements and supports DSPs to implement behavior management programs as directed.
- Supports the development of initiative by providing opportunities for adults to plan/select activities, choose responsible alternatives, problem solves, make decisions, and participate as part of a team.
- Monitors the constructive use of the adult’s time.
- Sets up and helps adults use assistive technology for structured independent learning and to perform functional tasks.
- Provides direct supervision and positive interaction with adults during all personal care services.
- Assists adults and supports DSPs to assist adults with any type of personal care as needed or assigned.
- Uses safe lifting techniques. Makes full and proper use of lift equipment when performing personal care duties as indicated by individual assessments.
- Encourages adults to eat healthy food/beverages to support health and wellness through proper nutrition.
- Assists and encourages adults to actively participate in all personal care activities to foster increasing levels of independence in addressing personal care needs.
- Observes the health status of adults upon arrival and periodically throughout the day. Ensures adults exhibiting signs of illness or injury have access to prompt nursing/medical attention from onsite nursing staff.
Education/Qualifications: - Highschool diploma or GED
- Two years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities.
