Position Summary: In collaboration with the Nursing Manager, oversees daily nursing operations promoting the health and wellness of Easterseals Redwood’s clients, staff and environment by leading the delivery of best-practice nursing services, monitoring of physician orders and nursing documentation. Job Responsibilities: - Ensures that proper processes are in place to assure that quality, nursing services are delivered in a client-centered manner and that appropriate clinical objectives are met
- Assists with oversight of daily activities of nursing staff and monitors the accurate nursing services documentation as well as accurately documenting all nursing services personally provided
- Provides training to both nursing and direct care staff regarding the health care needs of the children/adult clients
- Develops and maintains schedules for nursing staff and daily assignments as directed by and in the absence of the Nursing Services Manager
- Maintains inventory of nursing supplies for the adult nurse’s station
- Manages all employee health records generated by nursing services and forwards to HR Department.
- Maintains a clean, orderly environment, throughout the day, including compliance with all safety and health regulations
- Follows Individual Treatment Plan/Protocol of Care based upon physician’s orders.
- Responds to medical emergencies as required
- Administers medications as prescribed by a physician and authorized by parent/guardian/self
- Administers other treatment or medical care as ordered by the physician and based upon the current Individual Treatment Plan/Protocol of Care.
- Consults and builds good rapport with parents, physicians, Nursing Services Manager, and other care providers about children and adult health issues, medications, and treatments
- Communicates with Directors and direct support staff/caregivers regarding health and safety needs of children and adults
- Keeps all medications stored and locked in a central location and narcotics under double locks
- Provides health screenings on clients as needed and referred by direct care staff
- Completes monthly assessments as assigned and reports of changes to Nursing Manager.
- Reviews all physicians’ orders and is responsible for ensuring that orders are updated every six months, and as needed.
- Collaborates with Nursing Services Manager and nursing staff in review and implementation of Individual Treatment Plans/Protocols of care on a regular basis and as needed (Adult Services)
- Communicates pertinent information on clients, nursing services, health issues, records management, and related issues to Nursing Services Manager
- Communicates with the Health Department in collaboration with the Nursing Services Manager to obtain recommendations regarding outbreaks of communicable diseases
- Screens for contagious or infectious diseases
- Communicates with directors, caregivers and parents regarding incidences of contagious or infectious diseases and completes Communicable Infection Incident data collection form
- Fills in to cover staff absences.
Education/Qualifications: - Current unencumbered compact nursing license as a registered nurse in Kentucky/Ohio
- At least five years’ experience in nursing working with children and adults with disabilities
- Served as a supervisor or team leader in any related program or human service field
Physical Demands: In the role the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The essential functions of this position require visual/hearing acuity, sufficient strength, and the ability to bend, reach, grasp, manipulate objects, pull/push, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, and lift and and/or carry up to 50 pounds or exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move human bodies or objects, with or without the use of adaptive equipment.
