Recovery Peer Support Specialist Job Description SUPERVISED BY: Manager of Admissions SUPERVISES: N/A SUMMARY: Responsible for giving support and education to individuals in recovery from a lived experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Inspires hope of recovery from mental illness, drug addiction and co-occurring disorders.
- Shares lived experiences in an appropriate manner to foster connectedness and build relationships with peers.
- Listens and shows empathy to peers’ pain and isolation and supporting them as they move forward in recovery.
- Assists peers in exploring options and overcome barriers preventing them from moving forward in recovery.
- Assists peers in developing strategies to communicate with and advocate for themselves when seeking community resources.
- Supports peers in implementing a relapse prevention plan in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Engage clients in groups and individual support to assist peers in adopting a proactive role in their own behavioral and physical health.
- Documenting client services in Electronic Records System.
- Works with permanent housing residents in their natural environment to identify barriers related to employment in collaboration with Vocational Services.
- Work to attain the goals as written in job performance evaluations.
- Attend program staff meetings.
- Attend supervision with Manager of Admissions or other designated staff.
- Work to attain the goals as written in job performance evaluations.
- Abide by the standards as set forth in First Step Home’s Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct.
- Responsible for following all safety rules and safe health practices of First Step Home, Inc.
- Pursue training for enhancing clinical skills and acquiring and maintaining appropriate credentials and licenses.
- Prepare for and attend all clinical and staff meetings.
- Comply with all agency policies, procedures and directives of immediate supervisor, the President/CEO and the Board of Trustees of First Step Home, Inc.
- Responsible for following the Core Values of First Step Home, Inc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: - Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
QUALIFICATIONS - Two years absent of substance abuse
- Active in sober support community
- High School Diploma/GED
- Ohio Certified Peer Supporter preferred or must obtain within 90 days of employment.
- Felony convictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Must be finished with probation/parole and all court actions.
- Valid driver’s license
