Mill Creek Alliance is a nonprofit with a long history of restoration, education, and recreation programs in the Mill Creek Watershed. Mill Creek flows through 37 unique jurisdictions and neighborhoods in Greater Cincinnati covering 166 square miles. More than 450,000 people live in its watershed, but the great majority have lile connection to Mill Creek. We champion the resurgence of the Mill Creek Watershed as a natural and community asset and envision the watershed as a healthy ecosystem where people and communities can thrive.

Position Summary:

MCA is seeking undergraduate level students interested in making a difference in their community. We are seeking interns who are interested in promoting the story of hope and resurgence of Mill Creek with the next generation. Interns with skills and experience working with youth (Pre-K-College Students) is preferred. Having a predilection for life sciences will enhance learning outcomes for students performing Biological sampling and chemical analysis in the field. Intern will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data collected in the field.

Scope & Responsibilities:

Interns in this position will typically put in 10 hours per week. UC students who accept a Service-Learning Co-op position are required to take COOP 2000.

Support Environmental Education program by:

  • Interact with school personnel in a variety of communication platforms virtually and in person
  • conduct research, analyze trends, and implement water quality analysis lessons with students in outdoor field studies typically occurring on scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays through spring
  • independently lead student and volunteer group discussions with modular presentaons
  • Co-facilitate hands-on science field trips with MCA’s educaon specialist to engage HS students with stream ecology by performing experiments, observing trends, collecng data, and subming data
  • Create and analyze pre and post assessment to ensure advancement in student learning outcomes and provide solutions and strategies for improving the education program.
  • Write social media posts, fact sheets, newsletter articles, and blogs for digital outreach
  • Maintain volunteer database and communicate organizational needs via email, Zoom, and social media

Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking candidates who are eager to become the next generation of environmental stewards. Qualified candidates are active learners who are eager to get involved, be a part of the solution, support the planet, and educate the next generation of stewards. Some level of science experience in biology, chemistry, and engineering is desired. We are looking for an intern for this position from the fields of education, communications, and or life sciences. Access to a car or other source of transportation is desirable.

Compensation Provided:

$12.50/hr. We cannot pay for transportation to and from the work office.
