Organization: Giving Grove

About the position:

We are currently seeking a (part-time/contractual) individual with a background in horticulture, specifically specializing in the holistic (organic/biological) care of fruit and nut trees and small fruits. This individual must be comfortable presenting/co-presenting workshops and creating content for the national network. Position can be remote and will require occasional travel, covered by The Giving Grove.

Direct Report: Co-Director

Time Expectations: Up to 20 hours/month

Salary: Negotiable, starting at 45/hr based on background and experience

Expectation of Duties

  • Assist with curriculum development for community-facing and affiliate-facing fruit tree care and maintenance workshops on a national level

  • Review, edit and submit content for The Giving Grove’s educational website pages and Field Guide

  • Assist with updating production estimates of fruits, nuts and berries

  • Develop content for quarterly newsletters for affiliate partners based on feedback and interests of affiliate partners

  • Present at quarterly meetings and national conferences based on feedback and interests of affiliate partners

  • Assist with editing and contributing to an affiliate-centered website

  • Respond to national inquiries on fruit tree care and maintenance

  • Use expertise to offer advice and guidance to The Giving Grove Staff on horticultural approach, land and food policy

  • Additional opportunities to participate in Giving Grove activities as mutually agreed upon

Qualifications and Candidate Preferences

  • Educational focus or certification in the horticulture field

  • 5+ years of direct experience in caring for fruit/nut trees

  • Experience working with and/or ordering from nurseries

  • Commitment to biological and organic methods of orchard care

  • Understanding of land trusts, conservation easements and land bank policies

  • Understanding of issues of equity and access in food policy, land acquisition and greenspace

  • Commitment to collaboration
