About the position:
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden (CZBG) offers learning opportunities for everyone! From camps to overnights, there are countless ways to get inspired by wildlife while having fun. Over 155,000 children, families, and adults have a "Wild" time in our programs each year! And, through a partnership between CZBG and AmeriCorps, together we are bringing a variety of fun, engaging, and conservation-based opportunities to audiences including youth, visitors, animal ambassadors, and more! Together, CZBG and AmeriCorps provide quality STEM education to economically disadvantaged Prek-12 students, as well as a variety of other conservation-based initiatives, including engaging volunteers, guiding ZooTeens, participating in global conservation projects, and so much more.
We also challenge our community to step up and do more to conserve resources and wildlife! AmeriCorps Members engage community members by sharing sustainable habits, encouraging behavior change, and providing hands-on learning opportunities. Our goal is to lead by example and spark environmentally conscious practices in our community. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working individual to join our CZBG AmeriCorps team to provide administrative support these efforts!
Position Summary: This position promotes the mission of the CZBG and AmeriCorps through the coordination of the Zoo’s AmeriCorps Service Program - “Cincinnati Zoo Unto Others,” which focuses on service to human, wildlife, and ecological communities. Reporting to the Director of Education, and with operational support from the Sr. Program Manager, you are responsible for grant administration and reporting, budget adherence & support, as well as other key aspects of AmeriCorps Program administration, as follows:
- Administers AmeriCorps Member recruitment, regulation of member healthcare, and other general grant support as needed.
- Administers and monitors the AmeriCorps program budget.
- Creating and generating regular service and budget reports required by the AmeriCorps grantor.
- Monitors and initiates the annual process of re-competing for program funding.
- Effectively communicates the ServeOhio/Zoo partnership with stakeholders and community at large.
- Design and implement accurate data collection methods and report on findings regularly.
- Other related duties as assigned to ensure the overall well-being of the AmeriCorps Program and its dedication to advance the mission of the program and the Zoo.
Qualifications & Desired Skills:
Education & Experience:
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job successfully will be considered.
- At least 1 year experience in administrative coordination and/or project management
- Experience with grant reporting & compliance, desired
- Experience with grant and/or budget administration, desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A positive mindset & demonstrated support of a strong team environment are must-haves!
- A strong conservation ethic and enthusiasm to serve both human and wildlife communities.
- Ability to effectively use Windows-based software and applications is required.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail along with strong planning skills, including ability to manage multiple responsibilities at the same time.
- Must be timely and reliable in attendance and performance.
- A demonstrated ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships within the organization; ability to work with diverse personalities; tactful; mature; flexible.
- Ability to work well with staff, volunteers, Zoo donors and prospects, as well as the general public.
- Have a demonstrated affinity for the Mission of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and our Core Values.
Working Conditions/Other Requirements: Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment, post-offer drug & nicotine screen, background check and proof of full vaccination for COVID as defined by the CDC. While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, and have the manual dexterity to use computer mouse and keyboard. The incumbent will be exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to lift/move/carry up to 25 pounds without assistance, must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable to drive a Zoo vehicle, must have reliable transportation, must be able to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Position Details & Benefits
- This is a part-time, year-round position hours varying between 20-25 hours per week, not to exceed an annual average of 30 hours per week.
- The regular hours are mostly Monday – Friday with an occasional weekend work event.
- Pay rate is $20.00/hour.
