OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Gallery Security Specialist helps shape the visitor experience through Gallery Security interaction through engagement on the gallery floors, in the lobby, and by taking part in discussions about future initiatives and strategic goals related to the visitor experience. The Gallery Security Specialist manages all Gallery Security Officers in the absence of the Gallery Security Supervisor.
The Gallery Security Specialist is often stationed at the Front Desk when working as acting supervisor and interacts with the CAC Visitor. They also work in conjunction with the CAC Visitor Experience staff to help guide the visitor. They will also be on the floor covering breaks and floating to supervise Security staff on the floors. They may also need to cover Security positions on the gallery floor when needed. This position will require evening hours, daytime weekend hours and occasional holiday and overtime hours when the Contemporary Arts Center is open to the public.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Maintains incident reports of any exhibition related problems/damage to art regarding functioning, disruption, or irregularities of pieces within current exhibitions.
Report emergencies when they arise to the Security Supervisor and Director of
Interpretation and Visitor Experience.
Take charge of handling emergencies when the Security Supervisor is unavailable.
Participates and assists with all training sessions.
Is aware of daily museum activities and maintains accurate/current information on events taking place within the museum.
Aware of, and able to implement, security standards in accordance with CAC policies.
Completes the day-to-day tasks on the Gallery floors when performing Officer duties.
Guides the Gallery & Safety Security staff in reporting of security and life safety systems.
Assist Gallery Security Officers on the gallery floor when needed.
Learns about exhibitions and can answer general exhibition/architectural questions.
Engages with visitors regarding wayfinding, emergencies and security-related issues,
programming, and general building and exhibition information.
Open and close the building as needed.
Turn on and off exhibitions as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
ALL OF THESE DUTIES ARE TO BE DONE WITH OVERALL CAC BUSINESS IN MIND. THE PERSON IN THIS POSITION WILL BE CONCIOUS OF OTHER CAC PROGRAMS, EXHIBITION NEEDS AND CAC POLICY AND PROCEDURES.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent; aged 21+ and over.
Knowledge of security, de-escalation, first aid, and life safety systems, policies, and
procedures preferred.
Must be familiar with computers, able to use apps and Microsoft Suite.
Must have good organization and communication skills.
Should be able to handle emergency situations with composure and a balanced
perspective.
Should be personable, independent, and motivated to work with the public.
Must be computer literate, have organizational skills, possess excellent interpersonal
skills, be self motivated, and hold self to high personal standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 75% of the time.
Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Able to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as well as recognize potential security risks on the entire gallery floor.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather).
Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals.
