GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Ohio Native Land Initiative Mapping Specialist will develop processes for and oversee the location, mapping, and cataloging of traditional food, medicine, and sacred sites throughout the State of Ohio, in alignment with Indigenous land management principles and traditional stewardship practices. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the local Indigenous community, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, regenerative management practices, food sovereignty, and native ecology of the Ohio region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop a plan for GIS mapping of traditional Native food and medicine sites
• Develop a plan to care for sites in alignment with traditional Indigenous caretaking practices.
• Identify and log all sites along with their corresponding plant lists.
• Keep the Executive Director informed with detailed and accurate reports.

CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional experience in GIS mapping, planning, and management.
• Extensive experience in native ecology and Indigenous ethnobotany within the State of Ohio and the surrounding region.
• Follows and maintains internal Indigenous leadership.
• Adherence to Indigenous values and land management practices.
• Implementation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in alignment with traditional Indigenous stewardship practices.
• Contractor is capable of providing professional care, on site, a minimum of three times per month.
• Contractor maintains alignment with Federal and State guidelines and standards in order to maintain compliance with Federal and State project management best practices.
• Contractor is capable of managing all GIS data tracking and organization.
• Organizational alignment: a strong understanding and respect for community values, aligning actions and decisions to better serve the UNC’s mission and vision.

• This position requires state-wide travel. 100% in the field.
