Agriculture & Marketing Assistant
Hamilton County Conservation District has one position available starting in May 2026. This position has a flexible schedule with a total of 500 hours (20 – 40 hrs/week for 12 – 24 weeks). Position will start no later than May 18, 2026 (flexible start and end date).
Description
The primary responsibility of this position will be to assist the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator and Agriculture Specialist in fulfilling their identified department goals including the development of public outreach materials, staffing community outreach events and education programs, conducting data collection, and promoting HCCD initiatives.
The employee occupying this position is responsible to the Board of Supervisors and shall be subject to the direction of the Board. The Agriculture Specialist will be the direct supervisor.
Responsibilities: (% may vary as program needs change)
40% Assist with development and implementation of conservation and watershed messaging
for the District and the Storm Water District. Major duties include:
- Assist the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator with the creation of public education and marketing materials, including, but not limited to brochures, flyers, newsletters, and reports
- Creating social media content, including graphics, photos, and videos
- Assist in updating the District website to maintain a consistent look and adhere to the District’s branding guidelines
- Photograph and record video of District programs and events to create educational and informative videos for the public
- Write articles for newsletters and website posts about District programs, initiatives or conservation topics
- Assist in coordination of public outreach events and creating education displays for events
40% Promote the development and implementation of urban agricultural programs as it relates to conservation and stormwater management. Major duties include:
- Assist Agriculture Specialist in the implementation of programs to include: farm tours, workshops and trainings, seed and plant sales
- Assist the Agriculture Specialist with promotion of the soil fertility testing program.
- Collect regional farming and food distribution data through online research, interviews, and mapping to help guide the direction of the Regional Food Production Collaborative
- Assist with build-out of agriculture stakeholder online toolkits through benchmarking and online research
10-15% Assist in staffing public event displays on weekends and evenings
5% Maintain records of activities and contacts. Major duties include:
- Develop reports for the Board of Supervisors and direct supervisor (as needed)
- Other duties as required by the Board of Supervisors
Recommended Qualifications:
- Working toward a degree in Communications, Marketing, Agriculture Education, Environmental Science, Biology, Geography, Natural Resources, or related field, or recently graduated.
- A direct working knowledge of conservation issues as they apply to soil & water.
Knowledge of NPDES Phase II Storm Water Regulations is a plus.
Some experience in graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Video editing preferred) - Ability to communicate in a professional, accurate, and enthusiastic manner
- Work well independently or within a team: respect and support initiative of others; communicate in a timely and candid manner with team members
- Be available on some weekends and evenings
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, with specific experience in Excel
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
- Ability to pass a background check
- Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willing to complete within first month of employment.
Administration:
The salary range for this position is $17.00 per hour. This is a temporary position with no health benefits. Employees will earn sick time and participate in the OPERS retirement system. Hourly recordkeeping shall be reported to the Education & Outreach Program Manager on a bi-weekly basis.
Work Schedule:
The work schedule for this position is flexible depending on employee’s availability. This may include a 40-hour workweek for 12 weeks or may include a 20-hour workweek for 24 weeks. This position is for a maximum of 500 hours and starts no later than May 18, 2026.
Hourly salary – $17.00
