Urban Agriculture Assistant Internship

Position Description: The Civic Garden Center (CGC) Urban Agriculture Assistant internship is a 25-week part-time paid position. Working alongside the Urban Agriculture Coordinator and Program Associate, this intern will assist in the build-out of backyard gardens, aid in material distribution, assist with facilitating Market Garden Training education and educate the public on applying regenerative agriculture methods and general horticultural techniques in an urban setting. This position will work in several community gardens, cofacilitating outdoor gardening classes and volunteer workdays as well as performing garden maintenance.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
- Contribute to the development of practical education materials for summer programming
- Assist the Urban Agriculture Coordinator and Program Associate in preparing and facilitating summer programming
- Conduct site visits and consultations for and co-facilitate community garden workdays
- Maintain a safe work environment through the proper use and care of tools and equipment
- Be available to work nights and weekends on a regular basis
- Understand the mission of the CGC and its role in local agriculture systems
Qualifications: Tasks are varied and the growing season can be unpredictable; intern must be comfortable with a flexible workflow. This position reports to both the Urban Agriculture Coordinator and Program Associate and will split time between them. Intern must have a general knowledge of or interest in edible plants, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be self-motivated and focused. Public speaking and conflict resolution skills are recommended. Intern must be able to arrange their own transportation to and from job sites. Employment is contingent upon the successful passage of a background check.
Physical Requirements: This is a hands-on working position. Intern must tolerate heat and be able to work outside for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and move at least thirty pounds and to bend, stoop, kneel etc.
