Ohio River Foundation, a regional conservation non-profit organization, is seeking a Part-Time Restoration Program Manager. The ideal candidate has experience in ecological restoration, strong field leadership skills, and a passion for conservation. Approximately 75% of the position is fieldwork, and 25% involves office responsibilities such as planning, reporting, and project coordination. Most work occurs on weekdays during the spring, summer, and fall, with occasional weekend volunteer events.
Responsibilities:
Lead ecological restoration projects, including invasive species removal, prairie management, forest management, and native plantings.
● Implement invasive species control using mechanical and herbicide-based treatment methods.
● Operate and maintain chainsaws and other restoration equipment.
● Supervise and train seasonal crew members and volunteers during field projects.
● Track restoration activities, monitor outcomes, and identify priorities for future work.
● Maintain tools and equipment for shared use by staff and volunteers.
● Keep maintenance records for tools and equipment and coordinate servicing when necessary.
● Lead or Co-lead volunteer workdays and assist with public engagement efforts.
● Prepare project summaries and reports that include data, maps, and photos.
● Develop new project opportunities with guidance from the Executive Director.
Required Qualifications:
● Experience in environmental restoration, forestry or ecosystem management
● Proficiency in chainsaw operation and maintenance
● Ability to lead, train, and supervise crew members and volunteers in fieldwork activities
● Familiarity with invasive species control methods, including mechanical and chemical treatments
● Strong leadership and communication skills
● Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions and rugged terrain
● Experience with Google Business Suite and Microsoft Office products
Preferred Qualifications:
● Boating experience (canoe, kayak), including navigation for river restoration work
● Valid herbicide applicator license for OH/KY/IN (or willingness to obtain)
● Knowledge of riparian ecosystem function, watershed management, and native plant ID
● Experience with trail maintenance, erosion control, or ecological restoration techniques
● First aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements:
This is a physically demanding, field-based position. Candidates must be able to work safely in uneven and sometimes hazardous terrain and lift/carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ohio River Foundation will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear for field operations.

● Starting pay rate: $26/hour
