Day to Day
As a Software Engineer VI at Indeed, you will operate as a principal individual contributor, owning architectural direction across complex, multi-team domains. You’ll partner closely with other senior engineers and business partners to assess architectural complexity, guide simplification efforts, and ensure systems evolve in a deliberate, well-documented manner.
In this role, you’ll work across multiple domains over time, building deep systems knowledge and helping teams manage architectural change through clear design documentation and shared standards. You’ll also contribute to internal platforms and tooling that improve architectural visibility, consistency, and decision-making across the organization.
Success in this role is demonstrated by measurable improvements in architectural simplicity, the adoption of scalable architectural practices, and sustained technical clarity across teams and domains.
Responsibilities
- Own architectural assessment and simplification efforts across multiple teams or domains.
- Partner with senior engineers, technical leaders, and business partners to guide architectural decisions and system evolution.
- Establish and promote effective mechanisms for documenting and communicating architectural decisions and trade-offs.
- Translate architectural needs and user feedback into improvements for shared platforms, tools, or processes.
- Contribute code and design improvements to internal systems as appropriate, setting a high bar for quality and maintainability.
- Influence architectural standards and best practices across the engineering organization through collaboration and example.
Skills/Competencies
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience; or a PhD with 8 years experience
- Experience designing and evolving service-oriented architectures, distributed systems, APIs, and data platforms (SQL and NoSQL).
- Demonstrated ownership and accountability as a principal technical and product contributor.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across engineering and business audiences.
