Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Under general supervision, assist the pharmacy department leadership for inpatient (acute care; hospital) and/or outpatient (ambulatory; retail; home infusion) services. Individuals in this job function have increased responsibilities within the pharmacy department business and management of pharmacy technicians. Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a pharmacy with additional preferred experience in a Pharmacy Technician Specialist or Lead Pharmacy Technician type role. Candidates for this job show effective communication skills and proven leadership qualities. Responsible for overseeing training and scheduling as well as acting as a resource for all pharmacy staff. Functions in a variety of roles to improve pharmacy operations and has management privileges for business purchasing approval alongside oversight and evaluations of other pharmacy technicians. Other functions as directed by pharmacy department leadership.
Essential Job Functions
In addition to encompassing certified pharmacy technician duties (see Certified Pharmacy Technician Job Description) supervisor will be directed by pharmacy department leadership to help with management of pharmacy technicians by overseeing scheduling, and participating in pharmacy technician evaluations.
Assists in the education, precepting, and compliance record keeping of all pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students, and pharmacy interns as directed by pharmacy management.
Participates in or leads performance improvement activities for department.
Conducts disciplinary action and performance appraisals of direct reports
Assists inpatient (acute care; hospital) and/or outpatient (ambulatory; retail; home infusion) service area staff with medication/pharmacy related issues via telephone or in person.
Leads the education and precepting of new pharmacy technicians, pharmacy students
Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Other functions as outlined, and in accordance with, respective State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
Assists the pharmacist in preparation of medications to patients within an inpatient (acute care; hospital) and/or outpatient (ambulatory; retail; home infusion) service area. Performing diagnostic laboratory testing as defined in state laws/guidelines.
Performs additional functions and responsibilities as directed by pharmacy leadership.

Licensing/Certification
ExCPT Certification provided by the National Healthcareer Association; or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification and registration with State Board of Pharmacy (required)
Valid State Driver’s License (required)
Education
High School diploma or GED (required)
2 Year/ Associates Degree (preferred)
Completion of ASHP/ACPE tech training program - or - pharmacy technician training via Armed Forces/Veterans Affairs - or - respective state department approved career tech high school program (required)
Work Experience
2 years of Retail, Ambulatory, Outpatient, Hospital, Acute Care, or Home Infusion pharmacy experience (required)
