We offer both 6 month Neonatal Medicine terms or joint 12 month positions with Werribee General Paediatrics/Austin General Paediatrics.

Fixed term full-time and part-time job share positions available (6 EFT positions).

Term 1: February 2026 to August 2026

Term 2: August 2026 to February 2027

Heidelberg Mercy Hospital Paediatrics

The Department of Paediatrics at Mercy Hospital for Women is an innovative and supportive environment which provides comprehensive neonatal care for sick and premature infants.

2026 Neonatal Registrar/Neonatal Medical Officers work within a medical team with neonatal fellows and neonatologists, to provide care to infants in our neonatal intensive care, special care nursery and postnatal wards.

  • Accredited for advanced trainees in General Paediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

  • Supportive environment for trainees due to our 24-hour consultant-in-house model.

  • Fantastic opportunity for trainees in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics, Anaesthesia and General Practice to further your career and gain experience in Neonatology

  • Extensive teaching and support in practical procedures and take part in a comprehensive Neonatology teaching programme.

  • Employment as per the AMA Victoria – Victorian Public Health Sector - Doctors in Training Enterprise Agreement 2022-2026

Joint with Austin Hospital Paediatrics will be offered as a joint 12-month appointment co-located with Mercy in Heidelberg (6 months Neonatal Registrar, 6 months General Paediatrics). Please also apply to Austin Hospital to be considered for this position.

Austin Health is a paediatric teaching hospital providing secondary level General Paediatric care to our local community while supporting specialised services in the treatment of Eating Disorders, Epilepsy and Diabetes.

The Paediatric Ward is a 16-bed unit comprising medical and surgical patients. There is a diverse range of acute and sub-acute medical patients offering excellent training and experience in multi-disciplinary teams. We work closely with the Paediatric Emergency Department - a 6 cubicle dedicated area, treating approximately 18,000 children every year.

The Paediatric team has strong links with our Mental Health teams including Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, inpatient and outpatient teams. You will gain strong experience in Adolescent Medicine and psychological presentations at all ages.

The department runs 3-4 outpatient clinics per week for General Paediatrics and fortnightly Diabetes clinics. The six-month term gives the opportunity for registrars to gain experience in longitudinal outpatient follow-up of patients with a variety of presentations. Medical student teaching and supervision occurs in all settings.

You will rotate through a roster covering days, evenings, nights and weekends. You are supported by a Paediatric SRMO Monday-Friday. We encourage your involvement in quality improvement activities and research.

Joint with Werribee Mercy Hospital Paediatrics allowing 6 months as Neonatal Registrar and 6 months General Paediatrics Registrar across both sites, RACP accredited for advanced trainees.

Werribee Mercy Hospital is a public health service located in the western region of Melbourne in the centre of one of Australia's fastest growing suburban growth corridors, within an easy drive of Melbourne. This is an exciting time to join the Paediatric team at Werribee Mercy with the newest Paediatric Unit in the state, expansion of the outpatient services and a well- established busy SCN service.

The role will include:

  • Paediatric, SCN, ED and outpatient exposure Excellent supportive environment

  • Outstanding teaching program including simulation (dedicated phone free 5 hours per week)

  • Job sharing and part time positions will be considered

The Werribee Mercy Paediatric Registrar is accredited for advanced training – General Paediatrics with perinates.

ABOUT YOU:

Current registration (or eligible for) as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)

Applicants with previous Neonatal Paediatric experience will be advantaged, but is not essential

Highly developed and up to date clinical and theoretical knowledge Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability to build relationships with people at all levels and work collaboratively with a diverse team

Australian citizenship or be eligible for full Australian working visa (administrative assistance will be provided)
