About the opportunity

The Department of Anaesthesia provides anaesthetic services for surgical & medical specialties including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Paediatrics , Gynaecology and psychiatry as well as to a busy Obstetric unit. The Department of Anaesthesia at Werribee Mercy Hospiatal is an accredited 52 week site for training with ANZCA and participates in the North-Western rotational Anaesthetic training scheme.

  • 6 or 12 month contracts commencing in either February 2026 are available. Full-time or part-time contractual arrangements will be considered

  • Clinical duties will include the provision of peri-operative anaesthetic and resuscitation care of in-patients, including anaesthesia and analgesia services to patients in the birth suite, operating theatres, wards (including critical care) and the emergency department.

  • Successful candidates will be expected to actively participate in the coordination of weekly Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment Clinics and take part in the organisation and coordination of departmental non-clinical education and quality assurance activities and provide high quality clinical care both in hours and afterhours under the supervision of consultant anaesthetists and participate fully in the activities of the department.

  • Positions may be suitable for candidates at a registrar level and those seeking to complete their Provisional Fellowship. The positions may also be suitable for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who have been assessed by ANZCA as either Substantially or Partially Comparable and have been similarly approved as suitable for Clinical Practice Assessment (CPA) although this is subject to ANZCA approval.

  • The successful applicant will be employed as per the terms and conditions set out in the current Victorian Public Health Sector (AMA – Victoria) Doctors in Training (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement

ABOUT YOU:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA)

  • Applicants must be registrable with AHPRA for positions of up to 12 months from February 2026 as Registrars or Provisional Fellows in Anaesthesia

  • Minimum 6 months experience in an accredited Anaesthesia Registrar-level training position

  • Experience in Obstetric anaesthesia is desirable

  • A high standard of written and verbal communication skills.

  • A practical common approach to problem solving & trouble shooting

  • Ability to work as part of a collaboratively team.
