Mercy Hospital for Women (MHW) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director Medical Services join our team. This rare opportunity will allow you to be a pivotal part of team leading the management and strategic growth of Mercy Hospital for Women.
About the role:
The Director of Medical Services is responsible for the provision of expert clinical governance and leadership in the strategic and operational management of medical services and medical workforce at Mercy Hospital for Women.
The position is physically based at Mercy Hospital for Women, Heidelberg, Victoria.
The position will:
- Contribute to the overall leadership and management of Mercy Hospital for Women.
- Support the development and implementation of future goals, ensuring patients experience the best possible care whilst staff work in a safe, healthy and culturally sensitive environment.
- Work collaboratively with the Executive Director of Mercy Hospital for Women to provide contemporary, high quality and accessible services across the site within the scope of practice and service plan for the site.
- Support the Clinical Directors/Directors, Unit Managers and clinicians to develop systems and processes to ensure safe and high-quality patient care, which will drive continual quality improvement for patient satisfaction and staff wellbeing within our service.
- Manage the operational, financial, human and information resources within the program in consultation with the Executive Director and the broader Executive team.
The position reports to:
- Executive Director, Mercy Hospital for Women (operationally)
- Chief Medical Officer (professionally)
Direct reports to the position include:
- Clinical Medical Director
- Clinical Directors/Directors of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Neonatology, Emergency, Anaesthesia, Perinatal Medicine, and Medical Imaging.
About you:
You will have:
- Registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Postgraduate qualification (or working towards) in health services, business administration, or management.
- Extensive experience in health service management and medical leadership.
- Proven ability to manage clinical and non-clinical matters in a hospital setting.
- Fellowship of RACMA (desirable).
- Experience in women’s and newborn services (desirable).

Mercy Hospital for Women is a fully accredited Level 6 Public Specialist Teaching Hospital providing both public and private patient care through maternity services, neonatology and paediatrics, perioperative services, gynaecology, women's health and associated health, support and diagnostic services. We are a major teaching hospital and specialist referral centre with the medical, nursing, midwifery and allied health expertise to treat the most complex obstetric, neonatal and gynaecological cases.
