The Tax Accountant is responsible for overseeing all tax reporting and compliance activities for the organization. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local tax laws, manages audits, and develops strategic tax planning initiatives. The Tax Accountant collaborates with internal departments and external consultants to optimize tax strategies and minimize tax liabilities.

Essential Functions
Oversee preparation, filing, and compliance for sales and use tax, including nexus analysis, exemption certificate management, and audits. Works directly with our sales and use tax TPA to maintain the current tempo, advance our position with registrations and filings, and move toward bringing the sales & use tax in-house.
- Manage real estate and property tax compliance, assessments, and appeals to ensure accurate reporting and minimize liability
- Identify and pursue federal, state, and local tax incentives, including credits for manufacturing, capital investments, hiring, and energy efficiency
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of payroll tax returns and compliance with federal, state, and local employment tax regulations. Register the company in jurisdictions for which we incur nexus for new employees. Collaborate with HR Payroll to resolve payroll tax disputes and issue resolution.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company’s overall tax position
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, including timely filings and accurate documentation
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax consultants during audits and reviews
- Analyze tax implications of business operations and other transactions
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and inform leadership of relevant changes and opportunities
Must have:
- Strong technical knowledge in sales & use tax, property and real estate tax, and payroll tax
- Readiness to conduct due diligence regarding tax incentives and credits
- Problem solving – resolve the immediate issue and develop a solution to prevent reoccurrence
- Communication skills to convey complex tax matters to non-tax stakeholders
- Ability to explain tax matters to stakeholders in layman’s terms so the stakeholders can make timely and confident tax decisions
- Work autonomously through problems and issues, compliance deliverables, internal and external reporting
Helpful to have:
- Tax experience in a multi-site, multi-state manufacturing or industrial setting
- Experience managing tax audits and appeals processes
- Data and KPI building so you can quickly and efficiently build your tax substantiation without relying on BI/IT to develop data and reports for you

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are flexible with business hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Travel
Minimal. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some overnight travel may be expected.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Must be authorized to work in the US and travel domestically.
