Schaefer, a nationally recognized structural engineering firm, is seeking an IT Manager. Responsible for both hands-on administration and strategic planning, the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to lead and implement infrastructure projects for our growing company.

Schaefer provides all aspects of structural engineering: planning, design, inspection, and investigation, across a broad range of projects and industries. Since our founding in 1976, we have grown to over 90 employees in three offices, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, and Phoenix, Arizona, and are licensed in EVERY state.

The IT Manager collaborates closely with the CIO and IT service providers to implement, support, and refine Schaefer’s IT strategies and initiatives ensuring the security, efficiency, and reliability of IT systems across all locations, including remote employees.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Vendor Management & IT Project Management

    • Oversee, coordinate and direct IT service providers.

    • Lead and execute IT projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

    • Act as primary point-of-contact for application owners within the business.

    • Complete IT aspects of projects on time and within budget.

    • Assist CIO in vendor selection and contract negotiation.

  • Server, Workstation & Network Administration

    • Manage on-premises and cloud-based servers, including virtual environments.

    • Administer Microsoft 365 services, including email, SharePoint, and Teams.

    • Maintain the company LAN and WAN network infrastructure.

    • Oversee Zoom user and Zoom room administration and licensing.

    • Create and maintain standardized workstation images.

  • Policy and Security

    • Oversee and enforce IT security policy and best practices.

    • Monitor and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities.

    • Conduct periodic security assessments.

    • Manage user access and permissions within the Active Directory environment.

    • Ensure proper authentication and authorization protocols for applications and networks.

    • Ensure timely updates, backups and maintenance for company servers and networks.

  • Licensing

    • Maintain an inventory of software licenses.

    • Ensure compliance with software licensing agreements.

  • Training & Onboarding

    • Assist in setting up new employees with necessary IT resources.

    • Conduct IT orientation for new hires.

  • Budget & Resource Planning

Key Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Server administration (Azure & on-prem)

  • VMware administration

  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure management

  • Microsoft 365 applications and administration

  • SaaS application administration, AutoDesk preferred.

  • Professional Services Automation and/or Enterprise Resource Planning applications.

  • Network infrastructure expertise.

  • Zoom application administration and integration.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in IT.

  • Experience with various aspects of IT, including security, network management, systems. administration and software application management.

  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience in an IT or technology-related role.

  • Demonstrated success in managing IT vendors, contracts, and executing successful IT projects.

  • Familiarity with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) process and requirements.

  • Strong logical problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent customer service ethic.

  • Strong organizational and collaborative abilities.

  • Strong industry knowledge, including experience with architectural and engineering software tools, is a plus.

  • Relevant certifications are beneficial.
