Description

Position Summary: Assist families in effectively navigating the mental healthcare system in order to create their own support system of effective resources based on staff member’s personal experience. Serve as a resource, mentor and advocate for the needs of parents/guardians and their families.

Position Description:

  • Monitor, support, and assess the youth’s progress in obtaining needed resources through continued one-on-one meetings.
  • Initiate and help maintain collaboration between the youth, school systems, and community-based providers; attend corresponding meetings and events as needed, including those with schools, staff and/or administration, and community-based providers to support the youth.
  • Effectively communicate key information in a timely manner with management and peer staff.
  • Maintain all service documentation requirements, evaluation outcome requirements and data as required.
  • Attend and actively participate in program team meetings; remain knowledgeable in program needs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of school system and community-area resources for youth and families
  • Ability to manage time and multiple priorities effectively
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately and maintain professional boundaries
  • Beginner level problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of a diverse background
  • Ability to be adaptive, flexible and responsive to the needs of the program while interacting in an ethical and culturally sensitive way
  • Ability to utilize technology including electronic service documentation system

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
  • Must have lived experience with a behavioral/mental health disorder/need.
  • Must complete Youth Peer Support 40-hour training through NAMI within 90 days of hire.
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Youth Peer Support certificate within 1 year of hire date (per NAMI rules and regulations).
  • Knowledge of behavioral health systems, school system and community-area resources for youth and families.

Essential Functions/Physical Demands:

  • Positional: Driving in accordance with job duties assigned. Frequent to occasional walking and use of stairs. Frequent to constant sitting.
  • Gross Mobility: Rare climbing, or crawling. Infrequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Occasional to frequent reaching and handling.
  • Sensory: Rare feeling, tasting/smelling and use of color vision. Occasional use of midrange and far visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision. Constant talking and hearing.
