JOB SUMMARY
To utilize MIG, TIG, Stick, and Gas welding equipment to fabricate parts to dimension requirements with sufficient speed to meet efficiency requirements.
Responsibilities include:
  • Safety
    • Comply with safety regulations and practices
    • Show concern for and report safety issues
  • Quality
    • Identify non-conforming parts (see P2-13-001, WI-13-002)
    • Initiate Quarantine Process (See P2-13-002) Start Up
    • Ensure all paperwork is at machine prior to start up.
    • Verify raw material condition and presence of traceability documents (where required)
    • Verify acceptable cleanliness of work area and machinery.
    • Verify presence and condition of gages (where required).
    • Set up welder to correct settings for voltage, amps, cfm, etc.
    • Verify correct gases and electrodes.
  • Inspection
    • Inspect the condition of welds and identify good and bad welds.
    • Inspect dimensions required for first piece using correct gages to ± 0.002” accuracy (if required and depending on gage used).
    • Inspection dimensions required for production checks using correct gages to ± 0.002” accuracy (if required, depending on gage used).
    • Identify good and bad parts using correct gauges.
  • Production
    • Start and stop welding.
    • Change gas bottles and consumables.
  • Shut Down
    • Purge work area of reject and non-conforming materials
    • Clean machine and work area of debris
    • Mop up spillage
    • Remove personal items and garbage
  • Communication and Reporting
    • Fill in inspection record at required intervals
    • Complete Production Report
    • Complete Reject Parts Record (See WI-13-002)
    • Notify supervisor and request assistance with problems and concerns
PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE THE COMPANY
This position interacts with other manufacturing personnel, project managers, and area supervisors.
COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Have an high school degree / GED
  • Experience with MIG and TIG welding equipment
  • Demonstrate basic mathematical skills (see TWI-18-001)
  • Understand engineering drawings with regards to welding (see TWI-18-003)
  • Be capable of welding to sufficient standard (see TWI-18-003)
  • Be competent with basic measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc to ± 0.002”) (see TWI-18-002)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to be detailed oriented
  • Ability to be dependable and trustworthy
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Have a high school degree / GED

WORKING AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
This position is on the manufacturing floor. They must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time. Lifting and kneeling are required as well as stretching overhead and bending.
